UCI and teams clash over race radio ban

Seems the controversy surroounding the efforts to ban race radio is hotting up.

What are people's opinion on this?

I'm undecided as to whether or not it would be good for the sport. I guess it would mean that riders would have to rely more on their own wits to decide what the best race tactics are rather than just following orders from the team car, but on the other hand it would be a bit silly to see races won and lost because riders didn't know who was away in a break/in difficulty off the rear etc.

plenty of riders pull out the earpeice in the last 20km anyway, all that has happened is the peloton is less likely to give breaks 10mins and get it wrong and they only let them away for 2 or 3.

i'm slightly pro radios as you cant really hold back th etide of technology

in fact i'm suprised teams dont have computers with built in text feeds if the uci ban 2 way radios would have the same effect

how did mcquaid become president , another blinding piece of skillful diplomacy

McQuaid has been a liability for the UCI for a long long time. Surprised that he hasn't been moved on yet.

don't see the issue with radios tbh.

but they should do like F1 and have them open source so viewers can listen in (to select messages played), makes the whole watching experience more interesting

Have to agree with you there. His diplomacy skills are as subtle and nuanced as a slegehammer to the face.

yep agree with cookie monster, its hard enough sometimes to figure out why something happened, wouldnt mind the background info that race radios give you. always found the itv4 bits where they have a camera in the team car on the tdf interesting.i think they need to embrace technology more live power feeds, live gps tracking , heart rates etc etc

Yeah, you've got to love Vockler taking out his earpeice as he makes a break towards the end of a Paris-Nice stage. It's like when Luke deactivates his targeting computer before launching the proton torpedoes down the death stars exhaust port. :D

None of the main protagonists on either side fill me with a great deal of confidence.

I'd ban radios, so I'm with Pat. I don't want Bjarne Riis' voice beamed into my living room either.

I would prefer no radio assistance. I prefer cyclists to buy and sell the race among themselves.
I like the rule in poker - one player to a hand.
