Hi

Anyone have any tips for catching the first magpie in the trap? have 2 traps out for over a month, eggs and nests in both but no bird....

Did you try using a decoy?
And Hotdog sauceages seem to work well.

A friend of mine has 5 traps on the go and catches 3-10 magpies per week :eek:

he is at it almost 30 years though.
Everyone goes to him for advice on the same.
Not a computer buff though so not on here.

The trick seems to be make the bird have only one way into the trap, and putting them up high seems to have good results, birds more wary of landing on the ground

I could never get much luck at trapping.
A bit like fox calling, there is a knack to it.
(setting up and setting the trigger light enough yet not too light)
