    ON DUBLIN-MALAGA AND DUBLIN-GATWICK ROUTES
    *
Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (19th Apr) announced that it will trial a reserved seating service on its Dublin - Malaga and Dublin - Gatwick routes from 16th May next.*The pre-booked service costs just €10 (each way) including priority boarding, and allows passengers to pre reserve seats in the front two rows, for a prompt exit on arrival, or in over wing rows (16&17) which provide greater legroom.
    *
Ryanair will continue to offer its Priority Boarding service for just €4, with priority and reserved seating passengers allowed to board the aircraft first.*Passengers under 16 years of age and those of reduced mobility can reserve seats in row 2 only, due to safety restrictions.
    *
    Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said,
    *
“Ryanair will trial a reserved seating service on our Dublin - Malaga and Dublin - Gatwick routes from 16th May next. For just €10 passengers can pre-book their favourite seats in the front two rows, to ensure a prompt exit on arrival, or in over wing exits, for extra legroom.*
    *
If this new service proves popular with passengers then we will role it out selectively on other Ryanair routes in the coming months.”

So what do you think of this. I think it good idea for Anyone want to get off the plane first. Handly enough for those people who don't have check in luggage l, just cabin bag.

Just another money making racket imo.

Why can I forsee regulatory problems about letting people pay to sit in the exit row seats without verifying that they're physically up to it?

They state about age and reduced mobility, but I've seen airlines asking, erm, "larger" passengers to get the feck out of exit rows too before.

So what happens with people who have priority boarding and no reservations? I often get priority boarding so the OH can get one of these seats with more legroom.

Will they board passengers with reserved seats first?

That would apply to any airline where you can reserve seats though.

EI currently sell those rows at a premium.

ah crap. i usually travel alone and 9 times out of ten get the front seats. out of the airport before some people are off the plane.

on an unrelated note, priority boarding in airports which have a bus from the terminal to the plane is the biggest joke ever, first on the bus is last off.

If they brought it in I would use it. I am 6'4 and am more than 50% leg. there are a total of 9 seats on a Ryanair aircraft that I can have a comfortable flight in.

I don't get any of this. The purpose of Ryanair is to travel, cheaply. We use them a lot for trips to Poland. I don't get people who queue 2 hours before a flight, or pay for priority boarding.

Life isn't always supposed to be stressful, or in a rush. God bless the people thinking they're going to be great for being first off the plane. Congratulations, you'll be out of the airport 10-15 minutes before anyone else if you don't have checked luggage. I'm sure those minutes will be vital to the success of your holiday. Meanwhile, I'll be relaxing in my seat, waiting for everyone else to push and shove their way to the luggage carousel, and when I saunter there, everyone'll still be waiting for the first bag to pop out.

But what if you pay E4 for priority boarding only, without reserving a seat? The only point of getting priority boarding in the past was to get a seat with extra space.

Well I pay for priority boarding(2 euro) so I can get a comfy seat. I would imagine that's why most other people do it.

2 euro for a chance of the extra inch I need? Its a steal at 5 times the price. Cheapness is not the only thing I look for when I fly, I also look for reliability. The last time when i was coaxed away from Ryanair and flew with AL because they were cheaper, it was when AL went on strike and I spent my holiday wondering(worrying) whether I would get a flight home.

ah but if you're rushing for a bus from the airport and the next one is more than an hours wait! I never queue, get out of my seat in the departure "lounge" and saunter onto the plane to usually find a seat in the front row empty. then first off the plane and on my way where ever i'm going and in the pub before you!

I would assume they would mark the reserved seats as reserved, so you rush on, with your priority boarding card, only to find all the good ones have been reserved, and you have to sit in a normal seat. Then next time, you reserve the seat or you go with out. Some people will still book priority boarding(the elderly, parents of small kids etc), to avoid the ratrace.

I suppose from Ryanir's point of view, with 6 seats over the wing, and 3 up front, the 9 occupants paid an extra 2 euro to sit in the 'good' seats, netting the company per flight, an extra 18 euros. If they charge 10 euros to reserve those seats, and any other seats people may want to reserve, they will be getting a minimum of 90 euro extra per flight. Now multiply that over upwards of 500 flights per day(very rough figure), and you have a significant saving for the company. Meaning more cheap flights for us.

    eh yeah, they're a business!

personally i think its a good move for them but i dont want to pay a extra €20 quid for my emergency exit seat! cramped legs for me in future! if it was 3hrs+ flight though I might be tempted

Taken from General Terms & Conditions of Carriage

Passengers with reduced mobility, blind/visual impairment or special assistance requirements**or person under the age of 16 years are not permitted to sit in emergency exit rows.

To avail of an *emergency exit row seat you must be:
16 years of age or older
Willing and able to help in the event of an emergency
    Not traveling with an infant
Not using a seat belt extender (which could get tangled in an emergency)

    Fat = reduced mobility :P

    Fat = reduced mobility :P

    From the terms and conditions:
Not using a seat belt extender (which means you have a bigger girth than normal and are therefore considered 'larger')

Yeah I have never really understood that, I will always have a good idea as to how many people are on the flight and therefore the number of empty seats, if there are 20 empty seats I almost always end up with 2-3 seats to myself, sometimes even the exit rows. while people have been standing in a queue to get on the flight an hour before the flight arrives.

I was in Knock last week flying to Faro and there was also a flight due at the same time for Gran Canaria. The screen said delayed, but passengers were still standing in line, I brought up Planefinder on the mobile and found that the aircraft was just over Santiago de Compostella, showed it to some people in the queue, but they stayed were they were, I got my flight, was probably over Spanish Airspace myself by the time those people go on their flight..

    they're doing it for row 1 (3 seats), row 2 (6 seats) and row 16&17 (12 seats).

can't wait to see how it works, could be a nightmare, or could mean one day we'll go fully assigned seats:)

Those extra 15 minutes mightn't mean much on a relaxing holiday but they can be valuable to those on a day trip.

I travel back and forth to East Midlands Airport regularly and know the times of the onward bus connection to Nottingham. So if I'm in a hurry off the plane, its not because I think I'm great for getting into the terminal first. Its because I don't fancy hanging around the place for half an hour before the next bus comes along.

As for the queue at the gate, I'm usually one of those up near the front if I arrive at the airport on time. Simply because I like to have a window seat. I'm as happy to wait there with a good book as others are to wait in the bar or browse in the shops.

Having said that, I don't bother with priority boarding. I usually just head for the rear door when boarding the plane (often passing a queue up the steps to the front door). I also don't see the point of paying €20(rtn) for more leg room on a short flight. Anything over 2 hours, maybe.

    P.S.
Slightly off topic here, but I do like the new layout on Ryanair's homepage.
Having all the destinations displayed on one page is much more user friendly than the old drop down menu.

I would never bother joining the rush on a short flight, but always pay the extra on a Canarian (or similar length flight) flight. It's well worth it to avoid the crush of happy clappers.

I always feel they're clapping because they're relieved that they're still alive.

As opposed to other airlines where reserved seating pricing is part of a more expensive ticket.

This could be great for families, as they can now guarantee that they'll be sitting together.

€10 each way to circumvent the scrum...worth it in my view.
