    Hi,

If anyone could help me with this query then it would be great. Up until October last year I was doing a FÁS course in Tralee in which I was renting accommodation. I then returned to Cork and basically did not have the proper funds to "officially" move out. When I applied for JSB I gave my home address as it was consistent for post and contact, etc. Though, since I've moved back I've basically been living off of a friend's couch.

I've been given some news that a room with a bed will be available in the next month or so and I've put my name forward. The thing is, I've been paying rent to my mates for this whole time and not to the land lord. I'm not registered as living in this address as it was originally a temporary solution until I sorted out some cash for my own place but alas things did not go to plan.

I understand a person must be renting for 6 months before they can become eligible for R.A. I've a feeling that I will not be eligible as the last 6 months I've been registered to my parent's house while kipping on a couch.

The first thing I'd like to know is: Must it be the immediate 6 months before the application or could it be 6 months in the year previous?

Second thing: Is there really much of a chance that I'll receive R.A. if I have no proof of my current couch address? I haven't informed my mate's landlord as I basically did not want them to get in trouble and affect their own R.A.

I'd really appreciate your help on this. I'm in a fairly bad situation.

    Thanks.

It's six months in the last year.

Even then, if you apply for rent supplement your cwo may insist that you also apply to the local authority for your housing need.

That's good to hear. It's had me in a real panic as of late.

The Local Housing Authority, that's basically putting your name forward for a council house, yes? Or would it be to apply for RA with the local housing authority?

Sorry for the confusion but I've been jumping through so many hoops with local bodies and the SW, it takes its toll on a person.

    Thank you again :)
