Recently installed UPC tv in my apartment, when i was ordering it i tried to order the broadband package too, but was told it wouldn't be available in my area till November, I live in Dublin 2 city centre, so this seems strange, also when i looked at the networks that my computer was picking up close by there was a few UPC connections. Has anybody heard of this?

Yeah, im living in Dublin 1 city center, and can get only TV from UPC.
The city center area seems not be cabled for broadbandservices yet, and the tv cables in some areas are quite old and cant manage broadband.

Instead i took broadband from Magnet, it has been working quite well, littlebit expensive though, 60 eur / 24mb incl. line rental.

I had a similar issue when I tried to sign up a few years ago.
It turned out that UPC had the incorrect spelling of my apt complex.
Once I signed up with the incorrect address spelling they were able to install the connection.
    Might be something to try........

you could possibly be picking up a signal from a neighbouring appartment block but the block you are in might be contracted out to a different broadband provider. The fact they have the contract to supply tv does not automatically give them the right to provide broadband.
    Hope that helps!

UPC network is crap in D1 and D2, most of which have no broadband yet. In the current high pressure ' tropo lift' conditions the wireless signal could be coming from a mile or more away and is meaningless.

I have just moved into a house just off lesson st and UPC are telling me that they don't have a signal in the area as it is a blackspot....... 7 out of 9 of the house are commercial but yet its a internet blackspot???

    I cant understand that!

Can any of you recommend any good monthly deals? There are a few of us in the house who would be using our laptops quite regularly so we would be looking an some sort of no limit package!

    Would really appreciate a reply!

    :D

This is one of the things that bugs me about UPC, I a also live in the city center and am unable to get broadband, they've also been telling me for the last 2 or 3 years that it would be available by the end of the year.

The UPC installer who put in our tv cable told us not to hold our breath with regards to waiting on the UPC broadband. We are looking at wimax, eircom and digiweb now for our internet but the new eircom package seems to be the best but we will make very little use of the landline but it still works out as good at the moment.
Do ye know of any better providers/packages?
