Phone lines over property, in way of planned extension

Hope someone can help and advise, searched forum but only info on pole obstruction...

There are a number of phone lines overhanging over the back of my house, you can practically grab one it's so low. The pole is in the rear laneway but because it's not on the corner the lines presently have to pass over my single storey at back of house for neighbouring properties. I have planning permission for 2 storey extension but cannot start until these wires are removed/heightened etc, they look terrible also!!

What should I do? Could I really have to pay anything?? Can I just cut them?!

Also, how long can all this take?

If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it

Contact Eircom. They will tell you what has to be done.

I know a family in Dublin who wanted a telephone pole moved 2' to allow them to widen their driveway. Eircom quoted €4000, they gave up on widening the driveway.

you need to contact eircom but it might take a while

it took us 10 months to get connected to the mains 3 yrs ago, and all the wiring was done to (new build in the middle of an established estate)... they spent ages sorting out a small problem which involved moving a pole or junction box or whatever, very hard to pin down - we were chasing job numbers and order logs and so on forever.

they didn't charge much extra as i far as i can recall

As stated before, your first call should be to Eircom but dont expect a prompt response. They seem to quote a fair amount and then take ages to do the job in my experience.
