Is it just me or have the price of these plummeted this year? Seen ones for €1.50 or 3 for a fiver, Christ 2-3 years ago you'd be paying at least €6-€7 for one!

Is this purely down to the recession, I'm sure Easter Eggs are still as popular as ever!

I've a friend who works in dunnes and told me they had run out of easter eggs at the weekend because of their €1.50 deal or whatever deal was going on. A week before easter!! theyre usually desperate to get rid of them afterwards its madness.

I thought they seem in places to be cheaper too.
Don't know if its down to competition or what but the question arises, in regards to quantity of chocolate per Euro, are they still worth it or are they still a rip-off?

The church can't charge a premium for religious products these days.

Still a rip-off. The only good value is the chocolate bunny for €1.19 in lidl. Nom nom nom.

Its 12 euro for 2 giant Kinder Eggs in Dunns at the moment. Bit disappointing that the toy inside is usually a teddy or something, would be brilliant if it was a giant toy you could put together.... yes I am an adult :o

Yeah I get them for my niece and nephews and used to get one for the OH (when there was one) but I'm not bothered by them, I love chocolate but I have to stay away from it otherwise I'll be back to the bad old days!

In terms of the sheer pleasure of cracking a chocolatey shell and the smell filling your senses once a year oh yes its worth it. :)

I don't have children and I'll buy an Easter egg. They're a rip off, but I still want one. I guess I'm a braindead consumer buying into some form of nostalgic...

The chocolate in Cadbury's easter eggs is fantastic.
And even quantity-wise the eggs are cheaper than 'normal' chocolate.

2 for 2 euro in the 2 euro shop!!!

Well it was €1.50 in Dunnes then the local Mace (who would charge more for a single egg than Dunnes) had 3 for a fiver, hope that clarifies the situation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,090 ✭✭✭markc1184

Definately getting cheaper. Tesco also selling the eggs with mugs range as buy one get 2 free. €8.49 for 3 eggs is not bad IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,159 ✭✭✭✭phasers

The €1.50 ones are tiny though! I don't get why everyone thinks they're such a good deal.

Aldi sell chocolate bunnies for 89c though that are decent size and made of the nicest chocolate ever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 240 ✭✭Juicyfruit

    Definitely cheaper imo.

Could have something to do with the packaging though, haven't they stopped using huge boxes and loads of plastic.

Yeah the boxes/packaging defo look more compact, not much space between the box, egg and bars!

The eggs might have got smaller but if you're giving them to young kids they won't remember how big they were the previous year!

I noticed that myself. I actually did buy one for 1.50 a week or 2 ago cause I figured it was better value than buying a chocolate bar, and I love Easter eggs.

I have noticed this alright, it's just a pity prices wouldn't fall on more practical products which we use on a regular basis ect.

It always amazes me how they can stretch half a tea-spoon of melted chocolate into the size of yer average Easter egg, robbing fuckers.

I got a medium sized Cadbury's Creme Egg in TESCO in Newcastlewest yesterday for €1.39. Plenty chocolate in that, and the deal clincher was that it included 2 Creme Eggs.
