There arent many players left in the world that are very good dribblers, messi being the obvious stand out one, and aguero looks very good too, C Ronaldo as good as he is, isnt a great dribbler and I cant think of any great dribblers in the premier league at the moment, georgi kinkgladze, darren huckleby and jay jay okotcha were great when they were around, ronaldinho and rivaldo were the standouts in spain of a few years back

It is dying no question so much now is about receive and pass/hoof (depending on quality) the art of taking a ball and running at defenders is in danger. McGeady is quite okay at this when on form.

I disagree- I don't think hoof it football is being favoured - I think the fact possesion football is becoming more paramount is a bigger reason. there is more risk in trying to dribble past someone than there is in trying to play around them.

Look at Barcelona (with Messi mentioned). Sure, Messi dribbling is a huge asset and threat - but most of their goals come from stunning passing/vision/runs off the ball. While guys like Iniesta CAN dribble quite well - it is more effective and more reliable to play the 1-2 or 3rd man run around a player than it is to dribble past them.

I'm not suggesting "hoof it" is being encouraged rather its the best some can manage! (looks at Carra) Its why at LFC Agger (a defender when in attack mode) - is so important and his constant injuries so frustrating.

I think the reason is most likely you'll be tackled off the pitch, and hard. Like Reyes was against Gary Neville a few years back.

Hint: The general standard of athleticism is much higher now across top level football than it was when Kinkladze was at his best.

    LOL
Messi doesnt dribble as much as Bale cos of Barca's style
he's turned into more of a playmaker & goalscorer

Bale is far more likely to play the ball past a defender and then explode past him at pace.
Valencia has a similar style of going down the outside for United.

Nani's attempt to get beyond John Terry last week (when he was fouled in the second half) was the best attempt at dribbling I can think of recently. I like watching Aiden McGeady as well, no matter how frustrating he can be at times.

I tjhink I nominate this for my post of the year for the sheer clueless-ness of it.

That bad tackle you got must have damaged more than your knee or else you have to be kidding. I know some die hard Spurs fans who cannot imagine any faults with Bale at all but even they would find it hard to back that claim up.

Bale is an average dribbler with tremendous speed. He can't beat a player with skill in the same way Nani or Nasri do. As for saying he's a better dribbler than Messi though then the only thing I can do is quote Paulie from the Sopranos and say "get the fúck outta here".

Nani is a brilliant dribbler of the ball.
It's a shame he didn't get through on goal before Terry tripped him last week.
But he did set up Berbs goal with something similar against Fulham.
He can overdo it at times though.

Nasri is pretty good when he goes for it e.g vs Porto. It's not dying but it's nowhere near the level of Cruyff and co
