Help to control rabbits?

We have a problem with rabbits on the land this year to the point that we cannot use a couple of fields for horses because we can't keep the holes filled in fast enough that the stock won't break a leg!

We could get a gun of some sort maybe but have no interest in shooting and I presume we would need a licence. We have been told that we might get some interest in someone coming to shoot them for us if we allowed access to the land.

There used to be a gun club called a couple of times a year up to about 4 years ago but I presume they were after foxes or badgers maybe?

We need to control the rabbit population and would let someone onto the land to do so but I would like to know what would be a usual agreement to have re insurance, amount and timings of access, notification etc.

We are on Donegal / Leitrim / Fermanagh border if that helps

    Thanks!

I pass straight through your area every other week.

I am an experienced rabbit shooter complete with insurance and all appropriate paperwork...
I could shoot it for you on Friday evenings using a silenced .22 (so as not to bother the horses).

However, if someone more local to you from boards makes an offer I'd be happy to leave it to them. I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes...

If only you were down this way I'd gladly help out along with some friends. We'd have wiped out in no time for you.

No hassle ;), just personally I reckon vermin control is a better option :)

    I feel your pain.
Sandy soil and a lot of bunnies is no fun if you keep livestock/bloodstock

The .22lr silenced in combination with ferrets and you will reduce numbers efectively

The below pic is of a new rabbit warren less than 2 weeks old, it's ~1 metre into field from fence. This landowner I shoot bunnies all year round for, yet there are new burrows constantly.

The only thing that wipes out rabbits is disease

    Hi Folks,

It is that time of year again and we are over run already.

We did have someone come up last year but they only came a couple of times and I'm not sure they actually shot anything so whilst I appreciate that this is a hobby for many, we are looking for someone to come and carry out a form of pest control.

Maybe that means we need more than one person so we can have someone shooting several nights a week or maybe we need ferrets?

You are the experts in this and I would appreciate advice and any serious offers to come over and make a significant impact on the local bunny population!

myself and a few friends who belong to a club in dublin would be interested if your willing to allow us access to ur land or farm.
can you tell me how many acres you would be wanting us to shoot over.
we are a shooting club in dublin and are 30 years in existance.
many of our members shoot rabbits and we could if allowed come once or twice a month.
we would be able to control ur problem without to much distrubance to ur farm.
we all shoot .22 .17 .223 with moderators/silencers if required.
we all have countryside allliance insurance and have many years of experience between us.

if your interested in allowing us to come to your farm you can contact me

look forward to helping you out

Thanks for the reply - I've sent you a message in response to your pm. I think we might be a bit far from you (we are Leitrim / Fermanagh / Donegal border area) and I see you are in Wicklow?

might be a silly thing but what county are you in, if your in fermanagh people might need a visitor pass, and vice versa

would you be interested in ferreting with nets , opur gun club is looking to introduce rabbits in our area and id meet up with you to capture some if you were up for it and if the land owner was happy with that

Are you allowed to do that?

I think ferreting would be the most effective rabbit elimination as opposed to shooting.

Thanks again folks - I'm still getting several messages a day about this. I really appreciate all the offers but as per my previous message we have made an agreement with one of the people who contacted us from the many emails received. If we need further help I will post here again.
