Using tasker & Locale etc

    Guys does anyone know any good guides to using apps like tasker etc? I've tried messing about with them but could never get anything to work properly.

    The only things I want to do is enable Wifi when I am home, and Data elsewhere. Also, the phone signal is crappy where I live - and I'm told turning off 3G and just using the edge network will be more reliable. Is this true? If so I'd want to do that too.

    Any other good things to do using these programs, ones to save battery life maybe?

    Ive used the ready made profiles a few times and they all seem to work. There is also some good step by step guides there aswell

    Enabling wifi at home is easy enough to do, using you're location mark exactly where your home is on the map-set the radius to about 500m (assuming you don't have GPS on all the time) make the task switch wifi on, and set the exit task to wifi off (don't use toggle). Things get messy I find when you try to get it to switch data on/off, so if you keep wifi on always when it is switched on (normally it disconnects from your router when you're phone sleeps) data will automatically not be on, because you have internet access via wifi

    In Tasker press:

    New -> Profile Name {At Home} -> Location -> Uncheck GPS (Net should be checked already), Set Radius to at least 500m -> Done -> Name Context {Wifi} -> New Task {Whatever you like} -> Click + -> Net -> Wifi -> Set -On -> Done -> Net -> Wifi sleep -> Never -> Done -> Done

    Now touch where the green arrow and Wifi on is and press Add Exit Task -> New Task -> + -> Net -> Wifi -> Set -Off and Wifi sleep -> default -> done

    If it doesn't work properly for you, try changing the radius distance

    You can use a similar profile to change the data to 2G only, but I just find doing this on my phone can bugger up my APNs and then I have to reset them.

    I just use the above profile, one for silencing notifications from 23:30 to 07:00 and one that automatically switches on GPS when I launch Google Maps or Navigation

    There doesn't seem to be any one standout online resource in terms of gathering this info together.

    I'm working on developing a site where can hopefully be used as a good go to place for decent tasker profiles and in depth guides.
