    Tracking? 4X4's are notoriously difficult to track correctly. I don't think camber is an issue with live axles but I'm sure if you Google Defender owners you'll find the answers your looking for.

    The only thing you can adjust on a defender is the track.

    It's 1mm toe out, as I recall, for defenders.

    Everything else requires replacement, either of bushes, or of the swivel housings.

    Mind you, the parts aren't expensive.

    Tracking is easy to check and set on a Defender, it's the only adjustable bit. Toe out is 0-2mm, with the wheels straight ahead, measure between the edge of the front wheel rims in front of the axle and exactly 180deg behind (I use a pair of long steel rules). Ideally the measurements should be the same. The hard part if it's not been done before is the adjustment, the track rod ends are frequently seized in the track rod tube.

    While you are looking under there check the state of all the ball joints, also jack each front wheel and see if you can rock it top to bottom and side to side. Your wear is most likely tracking, a ball joint, wheel bearing or swivel pin would be practically falling apart to cause that amount of wear. In extreme cases it's been down to bent stub axles or radius rods but the handling would be awful.

    Andrew is quite right with modern independently sprung 4x4s, full four wheel laser alignment is essential as is maintaining matched tyres and not ignoring uneven wear (could be down to failing viscous couplings)

    Or if you're trying really hard, radius arms, trailing links, panhard rod, a-frame, along with any/all of their chassis mounting points.
    Any/all of the above can and have been bent out of 'true' in my experience, and can be the cause of much head scratching when trying to diagnose tracking and tyre wear issues.
