Hey - Not sure if this the right place for this? Anyways...

I am buying a gas BBQ for my parents. They love to eat al fresco when it comes into summer so I want to get a good one that will last. Budget around 300 - 600. But would rather spend closer to 300 cos we are pretty broke but if the BBQ is exceptional we will fork out the extra cash. Thanks in advance!

I don't think you can beat Weber. Over in the Food & Drink forum they're mentioned regularly (if you do a search of that forum you'll find lots of posts about them). I haven't got one myself yet but the next BBQ I buy will definitely be a Weber. Woodies do a pretty good range and I think the most expensive one (which is huge) is around €550, €599, something like that. So you should find one for your parents for €300+

I have a weber which I imported legally with full duty vat from US for 1/3 of the Celtic boom price here:) It NG so no bottles

Great gear with one disadvantage, the one I have has 3 burners which run side to side rather than front to back which means that using one side only is not an option, the previous one I had had 3 side by side.

I was looking at a few there - is it important to get ones with lava rocks? Does it really make a difference in the flavour. It also needs to be BIG! We have a big family that love to eat together, and we eat a alot!

The dearer Weber ones are huge and would easily cater for a large family. As far as I know they don't have lava rocks and I don't think that makes any difference. The purists about flavour won't use anything other than charcoal BBQs.
If you want more opinions on this you should post a thread in the Food & Drink forum, you'll get a lot more views there.

Decide firstly if you want Gas or Charcoal. The Charcoal are usually cheaper.

You can get up to a six burner with some, the bigger the better. Try to get one with enamaled plates & possibly a flat plate also. Don't bother with a side burner if possible.

If you're going for gas, get a smoker box with it for some flavour. Also, the lava rocks "catch & burn" the dripping fats, which then smoke & give more flavour again.

Also don't forget to get a decent cover for it, if you're getting a big one, they're not going to be moving it indoors in the winter.

Also, try Homestore & more, they usually have good value.
