Building underground Base

Since I was a child I've been fascinated with underground bases, underwater bases and living underground. I have a few questions:

If I wanted to build one like a star wars spaceship (TV screens would show space to make it look like I'm in space) automatic doors (get same place as from supermarkets) These are the questions I have:

    Would I need planning permission?
How much do you think it would cost?

Yes, and lots. You probably have lots of money saved up from living in your mom's basement though and staying in everyweekend...

Not an expert on planning law but AFaIK the only underground structures which require planning permission would be septic tanks

There is the possibility one might come in contact with cables and/or pipes depending on how deep you want to go. There is also the chance of effecting underground streams, water in soil flows etc amid others aspects.
Thats why permission and advising your local authorities are advised to begin with.

Thanks for all the support guys. One day I might have my very own underground base, but the chances of getting planning permission are very small, unfortunately. Maybe I should have just killed myself like I was going to. The other problem is I am only renting a room here, I don't own the house. Maybe the landlord won't find out?

Feck the begrudgers, you build your base.
They've just lost sight of the dream and spend their empty lives wandering around Ikea looking for crap for the house they can't afford to live in.

Planning Laws require anything built on, above or below land, unless specificially exempted, to have Planning Permission.

As for cost, how long is a piece of string; what size are you talking about, how fancy it will be (will it have a bar for when you come home after a long days Empire fighting for example)

-see; its not as easy as you think!

I know what you mean, I am taking Zyprexa so i can't drink. Surely if it's underground (and I carry out the work at night) who will know anyway?

Just make sure you get a decent interior designer and not the tired old 70s has beens that decorate the ones shown in the CT threads.

I don't think they are built by tunnelling out the ground somehow, digging a big goddam hole and putting a roof on it seems more likely. Hard to do stealthily

they will come for free when the doctors find out and the surroundings will look like a hospital with large grounds to spend your days

Hey man, aren't they great? For now, the only underground bases I've built are in Minecraft :(

Maybe one day I can build one.

There is already an underground base built in Ireland - I think it was built during the cold war. It belongs to the army and is fully kitted out as a base for the government/military command...although the stuff in there is a bit dated now. Give the gov a shout they're stuck for a few bob. It's under Athlone btw so not sure how you would feel about that :)

Why would a deathbot want to build an underground base?

Are you sure you're not a defencebot?

It must have the classic, remove book from shelf that reveals a revolving door.

There aren't a huge amount of basements in Ireland for a number of reasons, the first being that there expensive and land isn't exactly scarce here. Secondly they tend to have water problems if they aren't done right. So its gonna cost a fortune basically.
