Refs who don't know the rules...

I'm talking about the rule with which an indirect free kick is awarded to the team in possession if the ref stops the play for an injury.

Three times this year so far our team have been punished because of refs not knowing the rule. Last month, the ref blew up the game for an injury and the opposition were about 30 yards out from goal. The free taker popped it over not a bother, and the manager challenged the ref at half time. The ref spawned some bull****e about a "scoring zone" or something and said no more about it. We went on to win anyway so it didn't matter too much.

Last night a ref did it TWICE in the same match, once either half. At half time a former ref from our club asked the ref about it, he claimed to never have heard of the rule:mad:! Two points they were effectively given by the ref, he was a bad ref in general, clearly didn't know what a proper tackle was and didn't punish a player for laying into our keeper while he was on the ground (who ended up with a broken hand as a result).

It just is so disheartening when a ref is so biased towards the other team he won't even follow the rule book, and it seems like there's nothing that can be done about it! In a close game that will matter at the end and I know in most clubs there are people that won't think twice about attacking a referee because of it, in my opinion they way they go on so unqualified to be a ref they deserve a good beatin'!!!

    Ugh, rant over!

Obviously 2 refs who qualified a few years ago and either havent been to the annual refresher (non attendance seems to be ok, threatened action but nothing in reality) or went to the refresher and didn't pay attention. Either way it's not on, especially as it is such a better rule than previously.
That said, it would help if the players knew the rules. I'm sick and tired of trying to explain what a foot block is (or isn't), that if a ball hits a ref from a free the free is retaken (do any teams practice kick passing? because nearly every team this year has been terrible at it) or that any free inside the 13m line must be brought out to that line. Had to do it 4 times to the same team last week.
I must admit I'm finding this year pretty easy so far. Over reliance on lateral handpassing that goes nowhere and even Under 15 teams playing packed defence means most of the game is spent in the middle 3rd.

Can see how frustrating this would be OP. Its up to referees to attend refresher courses each year whether they think they need it or not. Coiste na Reiteoiri should also send out rule changes and ammendments with their match reports for a few weeks to ensure all referees are fully up to date. This used to happen in Dublin but I am not refereeing at the moment but imagine it is still the case.

However the biggest problem we have is the players dont know the rules and they then spend their time moaning at referees for the duration appealling for every decision going.
