I think one of them became a plane driver, but I can't remember which.

Whats the prize for getting them all right ?

Enda Caldwell is a swing jock for the UTV stations, so you'll hear him occasionally on FM104, LMFM and others. Simon Young hasn't been well for a while and is a freelance presenter at the moment. He co-presented on Hot Country last year with Vanessa Monaghan and was on Christmas FM in 2009. Gerry Wilson was also involved in Christmas FM but I'm not sure what he's doing now...

Not sure if it's who you mean, Lapin, but one radio DJ who became an airline pilot is 2FM jock Barry Lang. His last show was in February 1998.

Micky I think owns a college in Limerick. Paul Clark left 2 fm in the 80s and went to UTV via BBC NI. Since I mentioned the rock earlier, anyone know where they ended up ? Louise and Pat James went to Nova. David Hynes is with spirit but several blanks

Thats the one. Couldn't think of his name last night.

While we're at it. Does anyone remember a character called Terrance?
I think he had his own (terrible) show on 2fm at one stage.

He sang Que Sera Sera and used to go around telling people "We're all God's children" in a thick Cork accent.

I think he was supposed to be funny but most people considered him to be a national embarrassment and a pain the arsé.
(Well, he was from Cork after all).

Thankfully he disappeared off the scene almost as soon as he arrived.
    Christ he was awful.

I don't remember him getting his own show, but he was a regular feature on The Gerry Ryan Show for a couple of years.

The story in relation to some others from 949 The Rock:
Kevin Brannigan, Chief Executive - Radio Nova, currently Chief Executive (its second)
Pat Courtenay (first run, 2007) - Radio Nova
Enda Murphy (both runs) - Radio Nova
John Power (both runs) - Radio Nova ... not to be confused with former 2FM dance deejay of the same name ...
    Matt Dempsey (second run, 2008) - Q102
Mark Manning (first run) - turned up on Hot Country and Heartbeat FM
Garv Rigby and Daragh O'Sullivan, aka Steve Davitt, (both runs) were last heard on Christmas FM 2010 AFAIK.

But what happened to 949 The Rock's Des Fitzgerald, Dave Adams and Gavin Hayes? There are a number of others too, but those names came to mind.

By the way, Enda Caldwell was also with 949 The Rock for both runs and the most recent temporary-licenced station he was with was Heartbeat FM AFAIK.

Seeing as I mentioned him, what happened to 2FM's John Power, the dance guru? I believe he left 2FM for an extended break and when he came back ended up doing a stint on Spin103. But now?

There are plenty of people who were heard on temporary licenced stations in the mid '00s but have not been heard since, particularly Premier FM. For example - whatever happened to Mike Doyle (3 runs with Premier FM and 2 runs with Choice FM). There's Dave Jackson, one of the original founders of Premier FM, who was no longer involved by the time of the third licence run. There's Ray O'Hara (3 runs AFAIK), a one-time deejay with Phantom as a pirate. There was Brian Wilson on at least two licence runs of Premier and Denis Wilson on its first run way back in 2004.

Very informative post Declan , thank you. I've spoken with someone who worked at The Rock and they mentioned Conor Cleere and Andrea Hayes - TV3.

Also other names came up including Damian Allen, Chris Barry, Peter Redmond, Sean Ashmore.

Interestingly your ref to Pat Courtenay caused some controversy as he never had a show but did a few recorded inserts from NZ as did one Carol Dooley. I wonder whatever happened to her :)

There was a great DJ on Clare FM back in the 90's called Tommy Kelly. He presented one of the best music shows I've heard ever. Right up there with Philip King IMHO. You'd hear anything on the show and you never knew what type or style of music was coming next. he used to do a weeknight show and then got moved to Sunday nights in the mid 90's. I haven't heard of him since then. Clare FM just isn't the same without him and I'd love to know what became of him.

I didn't realise (or maybe I just plain forgot) that Chris Barry was with 949 The Rock - last heard on Real Radio AFAIK. But I do remember the TV3 two and the others mentioned with Chris Barry.

I presume you were being ironic there about Carol Dooley, who is Radio Nova's PD and a presenter. I didn't know about Carol's involvement with The Rock. Was it the second run in 2008? And did she do entertainment-type news inserts from the U.S.? I'm just guessing!

What about my old mate (sort of!) John Quigley, aka Simon James? This chap was involved in a number of *local stations around the country between 1989 and 2003, but it was when he cropped up on Dublin pirate Coast FM in 1995 (after merging with Melody FM) that I first heard him. This is when he used the moniker of Simon James. "Simon James" stayed with Coast until its closedown in February 1996. The next time I heard John, or Simon as he still called himself, was on an oldies pirate called Flash FM in 1999. That was the last station I heard John on, but, according to another board, he was with Wicklow's East Coast Radio at some point in the early '00s. What hapened to John - did he stick with his non-radio day job?

Also came up with names like Michael Gerrard, think he does shows with LMFM and Gerry Wilson. Where'd he go does anyone know?

John does a bit of engineering work for Sunshine/East Coast on their OB's and is eking a living out of mobile gigs. I don't think he is on air there any more but I rarely listen to it and am open to correction on this.

Somebody mentioned Stephen Keogh; he is actually part of the management team of KFM as well as working brekkie shows.

Lastly Sean Ashmore is CEO of 4FM and a director of Spirit Radio; he still does brekkie on whatever 106.8Fm call themeselves this week :)

I heard Michael Gerrard as recently as last Sunday evening on LMFM whilst driving from the Louth/Meath area to Dublin. I last heard Gerry Wilson on the second run of 949 The Rock in 2008. He left 2FM a few months before Dubin's Country 106.8 launched - 2002? He spent those summer months as a weekend presenter on Lite FM, before being part of the original DC 106.8 lineup.

Harking back to what I started talking about...How about journalist Tony Clayton-Lea? He used to have a rock show on Saturday nights on LMFM in the early '90s - Michael Gerrard was his producer! Tony briefly had a rock show on Saturday mid-mornings on Today FM one summer. I have often seen articles by him in the likes of the Irish Times, but has he left radio completely?

What about Karl Tsignidos - what happened to him since he was dropped from 4FM's schedule?

Does anyone know where the boy Jas ended up? Jason Maine always reminds me of my youth, he used to start on the real Nova after Greg Gaughran @ 7pm?

    What an interesting read.

Chris Barry was doing some cover work on Sunshine 106.8 a few weeks back while Lynsey Dolan was on holidays.

Jason Maine I believe has retired.

Where has Liam Quigley disappeared to?

I think he's doing well enough off vos not to need to do jock work. Shame though as he was a brilliant jock.

I was speaking to Simon Young last week myself. He's a great guy and he's itching to get back on air big time. Legend of a bloke .. I hope someone gives him a gig.

Mark Byrne was another ex DJ that became a pilot. He was with FM104 and moved over to Today FM to present the Breakfast Show just before Ian Dempsey joined them.

He was with Ryanair at one stage, but not sure who he's with now.

Does anyone know what became of Siobhan Walls? She presented a late night programme on Century Radio in late 80s / early 90s, absolutely fantastic and distinctive radio voice, I think she left there to be continuity announcer on RTE 2 TV (Network 2 at the time). I can remember her emotionally handing over to Joe Harrington on her last broadcast on Century.

I hadn't heard her or of her in years, though I thought I heard a voice that sounded v like hers on a weekend show about 3-4 years ago on KFM.
