Last night at approximately 22:12 local time whilst in the midst of a session of Angry Birds Rio my Samsung Galaxy slipped out of my hand and the following happened.

    04.17.2011-09.19.20.png

Obviously I'm gutted and I would like to replace the screen, I see new ones on Ebay for around €90.00. The phone still works and the selotape that i placed on front does not seem to be affecting the usability of the phone at all, but I would still like to fix it.

Anyone got any experience here and would like to share ?

Sympathy posts are also welcome below.

Sorry for your loss. If that was me I would take it as my reason to get the SGS 2! ebay here I come!

€582.00 for SGS2 on Ebay...... Yikes!!!!!

Back to the problem at hand, €90.00 for a replacement screen on ebay, Or this crowd here do repairs in Cork http://mobilephoneservice.ie/. They have an advert for €100.00 in ebay to supply & fit which seems fair enough to be honest.

    Anyone used them ?

OP, check out this thread from a while back:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056084956

(I've kept that link handy in case the screen ever broke on my galaxy :))

In that thread the OP used this company to get his screen replaced. Cost him ~€70 iirc.

I had a Galaxy S for one week and the screen got smashed.

Repaired by a company in Clondalkin with other branches around DUblin for €120.

I took the option of a one hour repair for an extra €20.

    Working the finest ever since.

Thanks for the link, but I see that the cost on the bottom of the page is £99.00 Stg so maybe they have changed since.

It seems from that other thread that there is a big difference in the screens - I dunno why but Amoled and Super Amoled seems to be a big thing. Anyone know why this is or how I would recognise the difference ?

Yeah they seem to have increased their price :(
I don't know how you would tell the difference between the Amoled and Super Amoled screens, other than just comparing 2 phones side-by-side which had one of each.
I suppose whatever company you get to fix your screen, make sure they are replacing the broken screen with a Super Amoled screen.

Well good news everybody, I went to cork today and parted with my €100.00. All fixed up again.

Didn't get the Super Amoled screen thou, but to be honest I dont care.
Its going good enough, I can see and do what I have to see and do so i am happy as Larry :D

Just wondering if anyone on here has actually swapped out the screen themselves? looks handy enough to do.

I'd be wary of bringing it to a shop and not getting a super AMOLED replacement.

EDIT: found this site, some nice instructions and vids / pics, need to find someone selling the screens at a decent price now. http://www.careace.net/2010/06/09/disassembly-of-the-samsung-galaxy-s/

    Well lads...

A friend of mine broke his Samsung Galaxy S screen by getting it caught in the jam of the door there this evening...

There is no life at all out of the screen, but the bottom buttons do light up so phone looks like it is still going...

What's the best method of getting it fixed?..

I looked around here and it seems a FMMobiles in Dublin or Mobileservice there on Grand Parade in Cork are 2 that do it..

Any idea on Costs anyone, or is a DIY job the way to go?..

Screen's on ebay for €80 - €110 depending on if it's just a basic one without the digitizer or not...

    Any help is grateful..

    Thanks...

Yer man on the Grand Parade replaced my one for €100.00 and had it done in around two hours, The screen was not super amoled but works away as the last one did.
I am noticing however that the screen is now suffering from minor scuffmarks b ut still very usable.
