Stephen Ireland's Girlfriend Seriously Injured in a Car Accident

Only heard of this now. From a linky on msn.

Stephen Ireland is said to be "devastated" after his long term girlfriend Jessica Lawlor was seriously injured in a car crash.

The 24-year-old Newcastle United player is reportedly keeping a vigil at 25-year-old Jessica's bedside after she suffered internal bleeding, a broken ankle and cuts when the car which she was travelling in smashed into a tree.

A spokesman for the couple said: "It was a pretty bad smash and Jessica has got a lot of internal swelling and a cracked ankle. She has had a series of scans to check for internal bleeding and possible organ damage.

"Stephen is devastated but at the same time grateful it wasn't worse."

The accident occurred as Jessica was travelling home in a car driven by a friend after a night out.

She was rushed to hospital and released after two days.

However her conditioned worsened after returning home and she was readmitted on Wednesday, according to a report in The Sun.

"He's totally freaked out and doesn't want to leave her," a source told the newspaper.

"I'm not sure if the police went to the accident scene or not but Jessica is hurt pretty badly."

The couple, who are both from Cork, have a son, two year-old Jacob, together. Ireland is also father to Joshua, six, and Jessica, four, from a previous relationship.

Since when does he play for Newcastle?

Do you mean personally or have heard of her? I'm pretty sure there was a Stephen Ireland thread before and lots of discussion on her.

I posted what the article said, and hadn't known he played for Newcastle.

She's no less of a celebrity than most of the celebs talked about on here in fairness

I don't think he has actually played for them but he's with them till the end of the season.

I mean even though I don't know her I'd be more interested that she makes a good recovery instead of commenting on who the boyfriend plays with or is on loan to.

Although I vehemently hate celebrity culture, and wince whenever I see a picture of whatever monstrously expensive piece of bad taste Stephen Ireland has purchased recently, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. It's a tough situation for anyone and serves to remind that even the people we love to hate are human too.

Hope she makes a speedy recovery.

Well, one of them's Stephen Ireland's girlfriend. And the other one's her boyfriend.

I'd question the seriousness of the injuries if a bit of an ankle injury and some internal bleeding are all they're worried about!

A woman you don't know perhaps. But she is not unknown particularly since she was the centre of one of the biggest stories in recent Irish sport.

    Hopefully she gets well soon.

    What story is that?
By the way I meant knowing her on a personal level not just through newspaper articles.

    Wait.
Wasn't this the dude who claimed that his granny had died in order to get out of playing a game for the Irish soccer team?

Could he be the boy who cried wolf?

Well in that instance, any story involving a celebrity is irrelevant since most people reading them will not know them on a personal level.

If you don't know, Ireland walked out on the national squad blaming the death of a plethora of grandmothers. Then he revealed he left to be with his GF as she had a miscarriage (some have noted doubts as to this explanation as well). She has been pretty central in the continuing cycle of stories involving Ireland and whether he will come back and play for the national team. She's even been on talk shows on Irish TV, made appearances at Style awards, had newspaper and magazine interviews etc. Rumour has it that Stephen Ireland is wrapped around her finger (which in fairness is not that uncommon when somebody loves somebody) and she doesn't want him playing for Ireland. She of course disagrees.

They invented a thing called "Google". Perhaps you should investigate it....

If you're mocking the people who always ask "Who?" in these threads, I forgot to take my supplement for my irony deficiency today :pac:

Tomorrow the story will be that "its not actually his gf, its his 'other' gf", and the day after that it'l be "some girl he shagged years ago" then the day after that it'l come out that he just didn't want to go to work.

Fcuk em, - do we actually care about the little sh*t or his mog...

Oh yeah I remember something about it now alright.

Ah sure look once she's ok that's the main thing. He comes across as being a bit arrogant but it can't be a nice time for either of them at the moment.

I don't really care about them but what's the appropriate tone of mawkish compassion to strike in this instance? An RIP is obviously out of the question so I'll just limit it to a get well soon and a rote admonishing wag of the finger about the jokes.

That news report stinks of sensationalism. Going by it I reckon she was in a bit of a smash and broke her ankle and suffered bit of internal trauma. I doubt it's that serious but because it's a celebrity's wife they are hamming it up to the max. There's no story here, especially seeing as she's a nobody in the public eye.

If it was a big crash there is a 100% chance of the police being present. What happened is she bumped into a pillar whilst reversing and possibly went over her ankle whilst getting out of the car to look at the damage but for our esteemed newspapers it translates into

"Stephen Ireland's Girlfriend in DEATH SMASH"

    and for the Evening Herald

"Stephen Ireland's Girlfriends DEATH SMASH linked to Fat Freddie"

Bad taste Terry. And why can't anyone respect his decision by now to not play? If he doesn't want to do it, then so be it. He doesn't owe us anything. Having seen the reaction of the public, it just proved him right with his reasons.

Somebody needs to start a Facebook campaign.

"I know my real friends will repost this. Stephen Ireland's girlfriend -whatshername - is laying, critical, on her sofa, not knowing whether her ankle will heal in time for "the Paris trip". She is extremely worried about her "internal bleeding", otherwise known as a "bruise". By posting this as your status for just an hour we can show our support for this brave girl and raise awareness for bigger make up mirrors in cars. Hearts kisses etc

Come on guys, we can make a difference this day.

Thats the lad, but it then turned out to be his other granny, then both grannys turned out to be okay.

Dont like to hear about anyone getting hurt usally, and hope what ever happened to her, that she makes a recovery.

But I really couldn't give a sh!t about Stephen Ireland anymore. I just hope this is not another lame attempt by him and his PR team to give him a few more coloum inches in the paper, at the expence of his misses. Whose previous personal issues also came to light as the real reason of his absence during the Grannygate saga.
