    I have a 2007 Audi A4 1.9Tdi. a/c, cruise, chipped to 138bhp, It has 80,000 miles on it:(

I am thinking of trading in for a

    AK59NHE.jpg

2009 Passat 2.0 high line 140bhp. with leather and loads of other gizmos - UK import. 40K miles on it

the garage I deal with and get car serviced with has offered me €15K trade in for my own (it recently had timing belt and full service done which cost me €600) and €22,500 total price for the Passat

What you think of the deal?
    Any opinions appreciated.

Does the €22,500 include registration of the Passat?

Personally I wouldn't pay €7,500 to come up 2 years and go down from an A4 to a Passat but that's just me. They're basically the same car and you'd be only getting an extra 2 bhp!

Then again on the other hand, if you want all the gizmos you mentioned, it's debatable.

    €22,500 inc registration etc

i'd be thinking of the lower tax too.

Why would you be thinking of the lower tax rate? Your paying thousands and thinking about saving hundreds?

You'd need to keep the Passat for a long time to make it worth thinking about the lower tax to be honest.

i'm sure you wan't a newer car with lots of goodies, because thats always fun :)

but for me spending 7500 to save 400 on tax :pac:

    edit : beaten to it.

true. but my own car is losing about €3k a year at least in depreciation.

I kinda only called into the garage to get a quote for some repair work on the bonnet and now I want to change my car!!

Any other car (diesel) anyone would recommend instead? 09/10?

Those Passats are not the proper Highline spec. They are merley Comfortlines with cheap lookin saggy leather on the seats.

You will find a much nicer irish Passat Highline with much more extras.

I know but the irish model also has the full climate control with nappa leather sports seats and much nicer alloys along with other differences.

I thin it's madness paying 7.5k to change from a4 to passat.

Any car losses value each year. You paying 7.5k, wount help passat, passat will drop 2-3k in value same as Audi each year. It will just mean you lossing 7.5k and sitting from one boring saloon in to anather boring saloon.( which is not bad, I am not suggesting you buying a bike etc)

Saving on tax a few quit per year after spending 7.5k - silly.

Atleast you know your Audi is in working state. You know it's faults and what you have done to it. Passat will be a new yoke, who knows what will go wrong or already went wrong

From my limited experience of driving that model A4, I would think it is a much better drive than the Passat which tends to wallow around too much for my liking.
Have you even driven the Passat?
Also, is that some kind of test mule in the photo. very odd with wide arches and narrow track.

Everyone here jumps on anyone who says they are buying and would like to get on the cheap tax. People buy new cars regardless so if you are buying anyway, in many cases the 08 version is worth a fair premium over an 07 considering if will have the lower tax (model applicable), will be worth a premium on resale & also it is a newer car and that will likely have some advantages too.
I agree it can be silly to pay big money JUST to get cheaper tax. Still in the OPs case, comparing the mileage on both cars, he is getting 2 years additiional driving going from 80k to 40k miles so a cost of 7500 isnt out of the ballpark IMO when owning that age of car.
I personally wouldnt go for the passat from your A4.

I'd keep the A4, run another 40,000 miles on in, stick a felt spec kit on it then sell it.

The Passat would be losing a lot more than €3k a year in depreciation. More like €5k in the first year you own it.

Someone gets boned in 95% of car sale transactions, the €7,500 involved in this one isn't out of the way at all.

I agree. It looks like a reasonably good deal. But why would one want to do this deal? It still leaves you €7,500 out of pocket and will only save you a bit in tax / fuel. And you get an inferior car back, albeit one with a slightly newer reg and a more modern engine.

+1. The best thing the OP could do is sell his car privately as a 07 A4 is worth a nice few bob and then go to the UK and get his Passat. You will pick one up for 10k pounds roughly.

OP, forget about that UK Highline, as said it is just a Comfortline with aftermarket leather and different alloy wheels.

Here is a Skoda Superb top spec Elegance model for similar money.

1.9 TDi is old but is similar to what you have in the A4 and can be remapped. Still cheap to tax under the new system and the Superb Elegance cabin is a really nice to be.

Aye, at least with the Superb you'd be going up a big step in both comfort and space compared with the A4

I actually know the person that owned that Bazz. They got a new Superb the other day.

More car for your money than a Passat or A4 for that matter. If you are spending that sort of money at least get the best value you can for it.

I would consider a move from an A4 to a Passat to be a move up!

Simply on space wise, a small cramped A4 to a roomy big Passat?

And as you say also has more horses!

But each to their own I suppose!

My A4 has been chipped up to 138bhp, so there wouldn't be much difference in power.
I did drive the Passat - seemed like a good drive.

Are many cars selling privately now???
I had a skoda octavia before the A4. I've tested a superb or two as well in the past while.
I appreciate the responses.Good to get feedback.
What other options are out there?

If I were you Id sell your car privately as it is a popular model ATM,

You should do better, you should go for the new Superb as its the newest platform out of all those mentioned, and it would be Two steps ahead of the A4.

Bottom line sell privately and bargain hard on the new car and of course goodluck!
