New Tyre's or New Tubes??

    Hey all,

With the "national glass breaking championships in bike lanes" well and truly underway in Dublin, I was wondering if I should purchase a tough set of tyres for my Giant Rapid or just stock up on tubes.

Euro Cycles recommended gel tubes that fill the hole when punctured, while Build a Bike said the gel tubes were crap and recommended tough tyres at €100 for the set.

I could attach a sweeping brush to the front tyre instead!!!

A pair of these wouldn't be a bad investment and no harm to buy a fair few tubes with your order as well.

For bomb proofness these are the current champs:

I use these Continentals which I can't fault.

Something like Gatorskins or Armadillos will give you a nice balance between ride quality and puncture proofness.

Going for Gatorskins or the like is definitely better than stocking up on tubes, save yourself alot of hassle chainging tubes on the side of the road etc.

Or you could try these, though I don't think they come in a 23c size.

Like the previous post stated Shwalbe Marathon Plus is the way to go. i was fed up with punctures nearly every week. I went to Euro cycles on the long miler and had these recommended to me.

Simply outstanding tyres. I have done approx 300km on them since and no sign of a puncture( please remain this way).

These are def worth the money.

I have armadillos 26x1.5 and have punctured about 3 time in 3 yrs. Not doing big mileage though. Whats punctured them every time seems to have been glass shards. Considering when I remember to clean out the tires theres usually a fair bit of glass and stones caught in the tyre, its doesn't happen that often.

Most of these tyres seem to add some weight over a regular tyre.
