To be honest, there's not a great deal of LCDs in that price range and screen size to recommend that's much better, but I'd warn against buying a 3DTV since there's the added expense of buying a compatible Blu-ray player, Blu-rays and, possibly, more 3D glasses to go along with your initial purchase. Additionally, there's not much 3D content available so you may be left spending more money for a feature you don't want or need.

If you're looking for a TV then you could always look at the Sony KDL-46EX500 which is only €806 on Pixmania. It doesn't have 3D but, then again, that's a good thing in my book. It also doesn't have the smearing issue that the Samsung has but it does have higher input lag which may be noticeable if you're a gamer.

If you wouldn't mind going for a slightly smaller screen, you could get the Panasonic TX-P42G30S also on Pixmania for €899. They only have it in silver so you may need to shop around if you want it in black.

Sorry to tell you but 3D does not cost that much extra if you have a PS3 you have your 3D blu ray player right there. Sky 3D is also there for stuff to look at in 3D eg sport and movies. Also the PS3 has 3D games and there is over 20 games that work in 3D so far and 20 more to come this year to. There is over 35 3D blu rays you can buy now and more to come over the year

You can take a look at when HD tv came out there was notting for them onto about 2 years into there life eg the same with 3D tvs that have been barely out a year.

I picked up this in DID with a pair of 3D glasses for 800 euro. Also 3d glasses dont really cost that much when you think about it because really how many people are going to be looking at your 3D tv

That 42GT20 is still a great deal to be fair.

And its looking more and more that this year, even if you want a high end set to watch 2D, you will still have to get a 3D set because this year almost all high end sets will be 3D. Look at Panasonics 2011 range. HDTVTest recommend the GT30 over the G30 even as a 2D set. That effectively means that all Pana's high end stuff is 3D whether you like it or not. The future, for now is 3D so it looks

That's a fairly obvious comment to make. That's like me stating that HD audio doesn't cost that much extra if you already have a Blu-ray player and compatible 5.1/6.1/7.1 surround sound setup. How many people looking to buy a new TV would already have either a PS3 or a 3D Blu-ray player? 3D is niche and it will most likely remain that way for some time.
Sky 3D is also there for stuff to look at in 3D eg sport and movies. Also the PS3 has 3D games and there is over 20 games that work in 3D so far and 20 more to come this year to. There is over 35 3D blu rays you can buy now and more to come over the year

You make it seem as if 3D content is ubiquitous, easily accessible and will be the main type of content people will be watching. You do realise that not everybody has a PS3 or has the inclination to play games and that the vast majority of movies available in 3D are for children? That alone reduces the available content considerably, and I haven't even started getting into exactly how much all these 3D extras are likely to cost.

Granted the above TV seems like a great deal for a 3DTV but, as I've mentioned previously, once you start tacking on the addition of an extra pair of 3D glasses, 3D Blu-ray player, Sky 3D subscription etc, you end up paying much more than you anticipated just to avail of 3D. While I'm aware you can simply buy a 3DTV and just watch 2D content, there are still TVs that cost less and offer the same quality as their 3D counterparts.

Hopefully the price difference between 2D and 3D TVs closes considerably so that 3DTVs become better value, especially since some manufacturers, as you've mentioned, are releasing 3DTVs that have a useful, additional feature, e.g. the Infinite Black Pro coating on the Panasonic GT30.

Indeed. I managed to snare the LE40 C750 package that included the blu ray player and the 3D glasses pack for 950 Euro from Argos end of last year.

So impressed was I by it as just a TV (Leaving aside the 3D element) that I upgraded my main TV to the 46 inch 750.

The TV is 200Hz for a start and with motion plus gives a savage picture. It is also internet enabled vis LAN or wireless but then you have to buy a Samsung dongle.

And the two usb ports play anything I have thrown at it so far including .mkv

They are also fully Saorview compatable (I can get it with a coat hanger on the 40 inch in the attic toy room :) )

    See the Argos deals below.....

Yeah, herself spent all day Saturday testing it out, we're both pretty happy with it.
Had a 32" samsung HD (not 1080p mind) before, and the old remote works with the new telly, which we're pretty happy about, samsung have regressed in their remote designs, old telly, new telly and amp all have compatible remotes.

It comes pretty well set up, plugged it into Sky box, macbook (HDMI) and PS3, and it's SPDIF into Amp, and it all worked with no further messing. Will get some sort of calibration tool on it next week, but it was good to be able to just get stuck in.

Can't get over having a second, 46" monitor on my laptop; plus the Dualview works really well, provided you're using Quicktime. She likes to watch SVU from ripped DVDs off the computer, which normally means no internets for me, but we can do both at the same time now. Hardly a credit to the telly, Macbook must just have decided to let me with this one where it didn't with the old one.

    Delighted with the buy though.

The Dysons seemed to be flying out the door too.

With a hint of dodgyness "Item Under Review

This product is not currently offered by Amazon.co.uk because a customer recently told us that the item he or she received was not as described.

We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. In the meantime, you may still find this product available from other sellers on this page."

It wasn't that model number, I think it was something like 5100 series in the 46"....

I got a 40 inch led 3D from Samsung (UE40C7000). Serious viewing experience on 3D and lets not forget some games support 3D already, black ops anyone? Its crazy to play it in 3D. I'll be watching tron tonight, which I can only assume will be awesome. I got mine for €1150 in October, samsung had that €150 cash back offer running then and harvy norman gave me the 3D blu-ray player for €150 down from like €300. The freeview or saorview, whatever you want to call it works great here aswell. Better to spend a little extra and get longer out of your purchase.
