Hi was hoping to ditch skyin a pub for a sat system, tring looks great value but i keep reading about problems with picture quality. Can this be overcome as i'd need to show matches on a big screen ? Or what other set-up would give best value for money ?

    Wouldn't go near Tring!...

    Nova is spot on..

A sub is over a grand a year though!

Show's a lot of games, early, evening, midweek and a choice of 3pms!

sometimes tvcorner will give you a call just to make sure you're legit ... but they are generally pretty good themselves

Thanks for all replies lads, i dont mean to sound thick but to be honest i'm more confused than ever. I was hoping for confirmation that tring was the way to go ( i dont need hd quality as big screen via projector never fantastic quality anyway) but many of you seem to favour nova or cyfra and one suggested getting both tring and al jazeera. I've checked lj's listings but there doesnt seem to be one definite package that gives the full monty. i would be prepared to keep setanta as they're irish and ditch sky in favour of another european supplier to keep onside legally plus use freeview for champions league. Any feedback greatly appreciated as i need to decide asap.

I wouldn't go for Cyfra if this is for a pub as

    1) No English commentary (some don't like this)
    2) They do not show all of the Sky/ESPN games

I have viewed Nova in pubs before and it is fantastic.

    Have to go with Minstrel..

Have viewed Nova and its A1...

    English commentary and all...

But it depends on what the price of Sky is compared to it as Nova isnt cheap either like!

If commentary didn't bother you, then Sky Italia Calcio package would be perfect. That used to have English comms but not this season - Italian only.

I saw Tring a few times, and honestly, it would be like watching a crap Youtube video blown up.

I've only seen Nova a few times, but it looks good, similar to Sky I reckon picture wise. Also, with Nova being on Hotbird 13E, it'd be a more reliable to receive signals in poor weather, compared to the quite weak 16E where Tring is.

A combination of tring + Aljaz, is a very good combo package to have, It's the first season now for tring and I have been quiet happy with it and so is my customers, Not to mention the fantastic value for money that tring +aljaz have provided throught this season.

Other than that in MO, If you want to spend a lot more go for viasat,

We got our fingers burnt with sky italia this season so wont be touching them nor would nova, having said that nova is a good pack but with what has happened to the english commentary this season with italya ,,,

Tring and Aljaz havent left us down,

I do believe a new bird is also planned for eutelsat in the neer future which would help

    Regards

The Tring picture quality isn't about signal strength, but bitrate. They are squeezing too many channels onto one transponder, the new satellite won't help that any.

Surely new sat means more space ie. Less channels per transponder giving better quality and room for supposed hd channel

Yeah, you'd think so, but Tring work on a very small budget, relatively, so can only afford one transponder of bandwdth...unless of course they win the Euro millions....
