I am a sub contractor working for a principal contractor since 2009. The problem is he owes me quite a lot of money and is using every tactic under the sun to delay paying me. His latest thing is looking for my insurance policy for 2010, which he only asked for this year.I did not have insurance in 2010. No contract was signed and he never mentioned insurance before.
Can he hold payment on me for not having insurance in 2010. The work he owes me for was done this year. Surely he cant do that.??

I would think not. However, in your industry, are you expected to have your own insurance?

Teh various withholding schmes that revenue have are nothing to do with your insurance.

It might be worth your while talking to a solicitor or accountant to get it sorted.

I realise that work may be difficult to come by, but you may need to consider "managing out" this guy.

Tell him if the two of you can't agree this amicably you have to go to a solicitor.

    Then go to one.
