I love my car but i think its got to go

I need to get a smaller car as my girlfriend is starting out driving soon and we'll be sharing the car.

I think the Bmw is just too big as in long, wide and engine too for her to drive.

What are the chances that I could get a swap for a smaller car of someone or a garage would yee all reckon?

I have placed it on adverts, is that a good place to have it ?

    Unlikely I would imagine.....

I was thinking it would be hard as most people seem to going for smaller engine cars these days rather than bigger but I would be willing to pay a bit of cash if the right car came along.

I would advertise on BMW-Driver & Donedeal etc ... Still a demand for good e39 MSports IMO

If priced right, it will shift

Any link to the car ?

Most people are trading down (getting a smaller car) like yourself ;)

It will be far easier to sell your car privately first (a late E39 is quite a desirable car - if it is in good condition and the price is right, it will sell) and buy a smaller car with the cash

Keep the car and get her to learn to drive properly. An E39 isn't small but no reason why anyone can't learn to drive in any manual car IMO.

I remember hearing in the past of them considering bringing in a maximum engine size of 2 litres for learner drivers. Did this ever come to fruition?

    No.

Unless there's an insurance issue or it's automatic, I can't see why she couldn't learn to drive in it?

Car is perfect for someone to learn in, just for parking its a bit tough for a beginner.

If I done find a swap or get a car instead thought it will be a very nice car to learn to drive in:) Wish I learned in the same instead of a 1982 Fiesta:D

I hate the irish attitude of "oh, a 1.4l, I dunno I think thats a bit too powerful, you should stick to a 1.0l for now".

What the hell is all that about? If you're not too young and aren't broke then go for whatever you see yourself driving in a few months/years. If she can drive and park an E39, she can can drive pretty much anything.

You must love her a lot to sell your car just so she can learn to drive in a Polo or the likes. ;)

A bit harder for sure, but that beginner would be a better and more precise driver

I was best* at parallel parking when I owned my 7-series BMW. Why? Because you know the car is very big and you know you need to be precise

*best as in how many attempts to reverse parallel park were successful in just one reversing-in action

Like yourself, when I learned to drive we didn't even have power steering :D

What to do though guys, I paid 5200 for my Bmw in October.
Its driving perfect and since then I have half the cash paid off via a loan.
Would it be good just to sell for 4500 or trade in for about 3500 and pay the extra grand or so for a more suitable car?

According to most women, size doesn't matter. :p
