    Hi.

    1.6 ARM '00 symptoms:
1 first died at traffic lights and couldn't start it ( couldn't hear fuel pump running but it may be irrelevant)
finally after good 20 mins started and worked fine for couple of days.
2 then Revs started to jump all over the place from time to time (on iddle from 500-3k rpm) and engine was chocking while driving (no too often and usually for just a fraction of sec so you felt it as jerking).
3 finally died on motorway and remains undriveble (as it may chock at any time) - funny enough sometimes it will do it every 5 minutes sometimes works fine for a week. If you would drive carefully (i mean accelerate to rev up every time revs falls under 1000) you can drive (of course no one is driving it on public roads)
ps never had any problems if starded and left on iddle speed - wouldn't do anything unusual just keeps propper revs (well haven't check it for more than 10-15 minutes).

    engine has new:
temp sensor, thermostat, spark plugs, ignition coil.
    Ignition cables looks ok.
    Fuel pump looks ok.

head gasket probably ok (no oli in radiator nor water in oil no missing coolant).

computer connected to ODB (or whatever you call it) show "injector fault" but not further details.

do you recon replacing injectors would help?

If the injector fault code keeps coming back then obviously you need to sort that out first. There's no point in doing anything until you fix the obvious faults first, and if that code/s keep coming back then it's an obvious fault.

However, like a lot of car problems it could be something other than the injectors causing an injector fault to show up e.g. ECU.

Bring it to a garage you trust.

Car isn't worth a garage call (already burning oil in big quantities so engine gone any way).
My friend is moving abroad and wanted to use it for one way trip then dump it - so we are looking for cheapiest way to fix it if fault seems to be obvious. (we don't know are our symptoms matching faulty injectors or not). thank you anyway.

What exact fault code did it produce? If the code relates to one specific injector then check the connection to it. If that appears ok the swap the suspect injector with another one and see of the injector fault moves with it.

unfortunatelly it doesn't tell which injector has problems. We may try to get full injectors set from other car and see. thanks.

What was / were the fault code(s) you got?

    Can't remember (something like 3 hundred/ 7 hudred sth..).

    pipe-man:
No fortune to be saved '00 passat 1.6 with worn rings/etc isn't actually worth too much (i've been offered 3hundred in some garages for trade-in, other rejected to take it at all - while it was still driveable without any problems apart from burning oil).

I need to talk with him (he has a car at the moment) but i see it hopeless (idea of driving car with stuff was to save money or shipping stuff abroad - if repairing will cost more than 2 hundred e it is completly pointless as petrol + ferry charges are against driving it already).
