The car failed the NCT today on the rear proportion valve sticking. It's a 01 Clio, anyone know where it is and how one would go about freeing it?

I did one on a Scenic once that failed the NCT like this, and I'm pretty sure the Clio is the same. On the Scenic, there's will be what looks like an axle between the rear wheels, and in the middle there will be a block with a couple of break pipes on it that had an actuating lever attached to that axle. This valve regulates the brake pressure between front and rear depending on the load at the axle as the axle moves the actuating lever. What tends to happen is that the lever will jam or seize because of corrosion and dirt. What I did was loosen the a pivot bolt for the lever (through the blocks casing), cleaned everything down with a wire brush, dowsed it in WD40 and rocked the lever until it freed up completely. I then nipped the bolt back up and the it passed the retest no bother.

I found a pic of the valve as below, although the quality is not great

That's the two pics of the axle dropped (ie. no weight in the back of the car) and then the axle lifted up (ie. as if there was weight in the back of the car). Seems to me the valve is working?
