Ping issue

My usual test is "ping google.ie". I get about 46ms! "Ping 127.0.0.1" gets me 0ms. Everything else times out! Even my default gateway! Speedtest.net works fine for all the servers I tried (Dublin, London, New York). I just don't understand why I can't ping (through command prompt) pretty much any site! It's for online…

It's for online gaming I use it! Usually fine get knocked off once every 12-13 matches! Is it because of the ping?
