    Hi all,

I've recently started to get quotes to have the inside of my house painted and am wondering what the ball park price should be. I've gotten two quotes so far to paint all of the bedrooms, ensuite (mostly tiled), hall stairs and landing, sitting room and kitchen dining room including ceilings and doors, skirting boards.
One price was very low I thought (€850.00) and the next double that (€1650) which I thought was a little high. I have to buy the paint on top of these quotes also. So, what has been the experience of people in recent times for a job like this?

I remember getting a quote from a Polish painter years ago and I think it was 50 euro per room or something similar. 1650 sounds very steep to me. I just rang 2 numbers I found in local shops to get a quote for painting the outside of my house. One guy was in Malta and the other was about to go off golfing...business must be good in the painting industry!

And I take it that you would gladly work for €50 per day too then?

Was 50 euro per room not per day.

Was 50 euro per room not per day.

So an average of 25 per day? (if it takes 2 days to do a room) I take it that this price didn't cover gloss work?

Oh, so you would work for LESS than €50 per day then, thats a bloody insult! Slave labour alive and well with some people, especially when a spark can get €21 per hour.

I doubt the guy was even a painter..... Probably on the scratched!! I was made redundant 2 years ago (property maintenance company) I started out on my own and couldn't compete with pr/(k5 like that!!!! I wasn't charging a fortune but just could not compete. Guys out there quoting €50 a day labour and on the dole......

Getting back to OP s query, yes i think youre right, 1st quote does seem a little low for whats involved, (might be on dole too which would bring his price up to a more realistic one). 2nd price is too much.

As for €50 per room, well, you get what you pay for.

to do a proper job as 50 a room is very hard to compete with to do a thorough job too! i doubt very much you would get that at that price!

sorry for going off topic mods :(!

basically you pay for what you get :D

personally talk to your painter as most qualified painters will work around whatever budget you have.

work is scarce at moment and most will be glad to work.

Thanks for all of the help guys. As I said in my first post, I thought the €850 was too low and unrealistic. I also got the feeling that the guy in question wasn't really 100% sure of the job required. I'm not a painter but I knew that it was going to take more than 1 coat to get rid of the strong paint in the downstairs toilet and he was convinced that just the 1 would do. Equally is the €1650.00 quote was reasonable then it was reasonable. Its just been so long since I undertook a job like this that I wanted to be sure I wasn't pricing people's labour and skill too cheaply.

Penny, make sure that you get references and check them out. Any company worth it's salt will have them. Trust your gut and never be afraid to ask qustions, most pro painters are delighted to answer them.

    Good luck with the project.
