Just wondering, does anybody rent/lease their/a/ tractor.? Thinking of changing system and would require a bigger machine, but only for 4-5 months roughly. Would also mean you have a very good gauge on exact cost per year, which im sure very few can actualy put an exact number on.?

This is one of a few hire companies, the advertise in various places. I hire by the day off Brosnan Tractor Hire here in Kerry, I find it great value.

I hire the odd one from time to time when I'm under pressure, usually pay around €500 per week

Most dealers rent tractors. But it seems a bit like black magic nobody talks about it. I rent a tractor for a couple of weeks in summer €500/week for 10 year old 150-200hp. Always comes immaculate so try to wash it as good as i can sending it back. Heard from a few lads who buy new tractors regularly and they rent newish tractors for €10/hr but you need to have a relationship with the dealers.

Sorry, thinking of buying a simba-culti press or sumo-trio, maybe a McConnel shakerator, Horsch terrano? maybe..... also thinking of updating sower to to suit.
Will need a 200+ tractor for 3 months work but due to weather would be pushed out to 41/2 months. Can't justify spending 50odd k we'd need with GPS, for something only working 200-300 odd hrs per year.
Moving away from plough, costs too much diesel/ takes too many passes to get a seedbed, too slow, costs same for wearing parts almost.
Know of 2 lads atleast that hire direct off manufacturer for a new machine at harvest.

Know this is going slightly off the mark but is it possible to rent other machines other than tractors?? Think on the subject of tractor hire just go around to few dealers and talk to them about what your looking for. In these times they might be grateful to earn a few euro renting a big second hand tractor that they can't shift.
