Forget about the gels/energy drinks. You don't need those sort of things unless you are thinking of running long distance races. It won't stop you from getting tired. Eat right, train hard, lots of stretches on rest days and you'll be ok.

Youre going to hear a lot of the same thing here, the only cure for getting tired at 6k is to train your body till you can do more. There is plenty of advice on this forum on getting started and improving in running or tri, but there is no quick fix or magic drink you can take. Gels and bars are only an easily digestible way of getting a bit of nutrition in during a long race. They dont give the kind of kick you describe.

    Agreed.

With short races it's more about fitness and pre race nutrition than anything else. Caffinated gels are great towards the end of longer events (depends on personal preference) but not so much for shorter events (IMO)

Well said, if you want to do 10Km in a race train for 12 or 13 km. Thats how i look at things.

I don't think you should use a gel on any event under 2 hrs, your body has enough energy stored for roughly that length of time.

I saw energy gels on the road during the cycle of my 1st tri last sat......now i was in the 1st wave and it was me and the relays so someone fresh on the bike was taking a gel after 5km:eek:

Also training the legs to run after the cycle is important also. I would advise if you are doing a cycle get off and even run a few km afterwards to train the legs.
