Couple of quick questions after a bone graft

Hi, sorry if these questions seem a little trivial but they are on my ind so hopefully someone can help!

I was due to have an implant on my front tooth yesterday but after the extraction of the original tooth there wasn't enough bone left to do the implant. I therefore got a bone graft and after about 10 months I should be able to get the implant done.

Anyway my first question is a sort of reassurance thing - is this perfectly common and is there any risk that the implant won't be able to be done at the end of the healing period? My second question is more cosmetic - although I was fine yesterday my lip has swollen a good bit today (I was expecting this as I was told it would probably happen on Saturday). I'm just wondering how long the swellign woudl usually last in a case like this?

    Thanks

You have nothing to worry about. Sounds like you are in the hands of a conscientious surgeon. It is very easy as a surgeon to make the mistake of putting in an implant just because you have taken a tooth out even though there is insufficient bone.

Everything should be fine after your healing period. Occasionally grafts can fail for a variety of reasons, but this would become apparent long before the 10 months and another graft would be placed.

Swelling can last 3-10 days. Usually.

Thanks Big G :) That's good to hear.

Hopefully the swelling lasts closer to 3 than 10 but I'll survive!
