If you have an entitlement to Jobseekers Benefit through your employment history, you can claim JB during summer months between academic years but with Jobseekers Allowance, the following are the conditions under which you could submit a claim

JA Disqualification - course of study

The legislation also provides that a person shall be disqualified from receipt of Jobseeker's Allowance while attending a course of study (including school/college holiday periods), except in such circumstances as may be prescribed. The exceptions to this disqualifications are :

    1. persons aged 21 years or over who have been in receipt of JA/ JB for at least 6 months and who are participating in approved courses of education, training or development (as per above), and
    2. mature students, i.e. persons over 23 years of age on or before 1st January in the year in which the course of study commences.

Deciding Officers should note that disqualification while attending a course of study is completely separate from the availability condition. As mature students are exempted from this disqualification, they may be entitled to Jobseeker's Allowance during the summer holiday periods if they satisfy the availability condition in the normal way.

okay .. so let me get this straight im 19 never worked a day yet in my life, i can submit a cliam to get Jobseekers Allowance from the last week in may(when i finish my exams) till the middle of september yeah ?? .. but that doesnt neccessarily mean that ill get the jobseekers allowance even tho ive applied for it ?

so how does the deciding officer decide whether im entitled to get jobseekers allowance or not ??

The rule, as in the excerpt I posted above, is that students in the summer holidays between academic years of their course are not eligible for Jobseekers Allowance. Two exceptions to the rule were outlined but from the details you have now given, you do not meet either of those conditions and would therefore not be eligible for Jobseekers Allowance at all.

neiler you have a full keyboard in front of you - please use it. Your posts are very hard to read.

well why would you be very surprised if that happened ? i wouldn't be !! seeing as there are a serious lack of jobs for students nowadays compared to just a few years ago

everyone knows were going to default on the national debt anyways no matter how much government cuts spending in the long run :P trying to cut the deficit

might as well give money to students it might help stop/slow down emigration ???? maybe help the country in the long run

You have to be 18 or over and be out of full time education for a full 3 months and be actively seeking employment of any type,in ordet to applu for anything for the 1st time.

You wont get anything if you are a student or adult going back to College in September though.

neiler this is not a forum for speculation on what you have and haven't heard.
What you have heard is fraud, and is not to be discussed on this forum.

You do know that your PPS number will link you to EVERYTHING and you will be caught and legally (via SW financial collectors and court order) made to repay any monies obtained by fraud.

    You do know that,dont you?;)

Contact one of your local FG/Lab TDs. I would think it highly unlikely and the government are trying to cut the amount paid out on social welfare not increase it.

yea as if they would tell me the truth :P !!

im only saying what my mate told me i didnt hear about it till 2day ?
    read my earlier posts ?

it could be an incentive to get students to stay in the country seeing as there are a lack of jobs !!

66 started in my class in september were down to 35 now .. 22 that dropped out of have already left ireland.. dont u think thats just a little bit concerning ????? and its not even the summer yet !!

I have answered your question already, I seriously doubt this will happen.
At the moment it is not currently possible to claim JSA during the summer months if you are a student.
Anything else is speculation, maybe you will be better starting a thread about how it may improve the Irish Economy in the Irish Economy forum?

emm but you havnt given even 1 REASON why you doubt that would happen .. thats what i asked you ??

speculation hmm ? what if i can back up what i heard with evidence say from a local TD for example (although i doubt it) would it be alright if i posted it on this?

ha theres no point really any1 who studied economics for 1 year in an institute of technology or university already knows how and what it takes to improve and fix our country :) !
