What engine does it have? 105k km (65k miles) is a lot for a four year old Polo, but they have a great little three cylinder petrol under the bonnet (it is slow but has bags of character).

Seems fairly expensive considering the mileage it has covered. Here is a lower mileage one which you should be able to negotiate down the asking price:

I'd also look at the Ford Fiesta, 1.25 litre engine has 4 cylinders which is alot more refined and nipper than the 3 cylinders in the VW. Fiestas tend to be better equipped, cheaper to buy and nicer to drive than Polos.

Thanks :) I wouldn't be into ford fiesta's.. I like the look of the VW Polo and have always heard good about them.. the site you gave me looks great but its a bit of a strecth waterford - dublin and I dont drive..
the car I was telling you about I have it on hold.. it has NCT for 2 years, fully serviced etc.. Still don't know what to do!

Yep I would go for it but 6k is a bit much try 5.5k or a bit lower. People in Ireland seem to have this idea that once a car has done more than 100k that its worthless. That car only has 65 thousand miles and thats not that much. 100k is nothing for most modern car's these days. With a FSH and NCT it seems like a sound buy.

To be fair the polo isn't a great car, the only appeal I can think of is it being a vw which excites people for some reason.

Incidently, my sister had a rental 06 or 07 Polo while her Fiesta was in for some bodywork repair after a small tip. She prefered her Fiesta to the Polo and she had a VW before buying the Fiesta.

Yes, hardly the most constructive post, but it's Friday. ;-)
Wasn't making any assumptions/comment about the OP, just suggesting one reason for the rural appeal of VW.

That generation Polo is an overrated ball of ****e with weak engines, soft gearboxes and dodgy electrics. Characterful three cyclinder engine? Come on, slow and thrashy yes but it's no Porsche. It doesn't even look good. A Fiesta is a far superior car in every way. Or a Civic (bigger I know), or a Yaris. Five and a half grand is a lot of money and you'd be wasting it on a Polo IMO. The only plus is the reputation for quality that does not live up to reality. The new model is lovely though.
I'd actually be looking at a Suzuki Swift if I were you. Like this

Im going to go ahead & buy it.. I'm getting a years warranty and nearly everybody I know has a polo and nobody has had a problem with them.. so hopefully it won't start now but cheers for the advice. :D

Surely that's a reason to get something else? They're everywhere, and not that great. But sure best of luck with it if that's what you really want.
