    Hi,

my mates are getting married next summer, and are looking into teh Johnstown house hotel as teh venue. The have not paid the deposit yet. They are woied however because the hotel is in recievership, and if it were to go out of business next year before teh wedding would destroy their plans.
Does anyone know if this can happen? Can the hotel just close down even if there are weddings booked for certain dates? Does anyone know the financial state of Johnstown house hotel?

    Thanks

if they are worried get wedding insurance, I am working at a wedding in Moyvalley at the end of the month and they are in receivership too. The general manager said if they get 14 weddings a year they can stay in business, bear in mind that the hotel closes from September to March

I don't think that wedding insurance covers a hotel that is already in receivership when you book.

If the hotel is known to be in trouble id stay well clear of it....why risk it! If a deposit is paid and the hotel closes you can wave bye bye to the deposit!!!

It all depends, Johnstown House were a Marriot hotel but they gave that back and now in receivership so might not be the best option. Quite a lot of hotels in the same situation and still operating day to day. Personally I would be booking nearer to the date

Our hotel is in receivership but we're going ahead. When we looked around we found that 90% of the places actually are in receivership. We only had to pay €500 deposit to secure th booking and I'm confident the place will be open in Sept.

Thats not true. If you dont understand recievership then you shouldnt be posting on here.

OP if the Hotel is already in recievership the long and short of it are they company is run as a going concern as the reciever trys to either

    a) restructure the business to make it profitable again
    b) sell the business onto another party

Borderox funny you should mention Moy Valley I personally know the reciever appointed there.

the KEY POINT is that after a company goes into recievership any new creditors are SECURE. Essentially you CANNOT lose your deposit.

worst case scenario the venue goes into liquidation and you have to find a new venue but would get ALL of your deposit back.
