Not sure if anyone else has seen this story - I suspect he might be in _some_ trouble....

    From http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/13078895
    _52160083_after.jpg
A 20-year-old has written off his dad's £275,000 Gumpert Apollo after taking it for a spin in Germany.

He lost control of the rear wheel drive supercar on a sharp bend near Brokdorf, just north of Hamburg.

After the crash the driver's door ended up 100ft (30m) away and the car was described as a "total loss".

The man was driving with a 19-year-old female passenger and both of them walked away from the accident with minor injuries.

Police are investigating whether he was speeding when he lost control of the car on the 50mph road.

The Gumpert Apollo has a top speed of 225mph (360kph) and goes from 0 to 60mph in less than three seconds.

I like the bit where they say: if he was speeding, ROFL

Says a lot for the safety systems in the car for them to walk away unhurt from that.

Basing my assumption on the type of car he was driving I'd suspect the father has enough money to be afford to replace the car without needing to ring the insurance company.

Accidents do happen. I know people who have flipped their parents Fiat Punto FFS. Always good to hear people can walk away irrespective of the depth of their pockets.

Chances the son was speeding? High

True enough Berty - I suspect the Dad of the 19 year old girl might be a bit more miffed than his one.... Given the damge, speeding has to be a near certainty....

20yo boy with 19yo girl in supercar = speeding, a lot.
Amazing they could walk away, car is in bits.

Is it me or does it look like the steering wheel is facing the wrong way?

Ever since I saw the Gumpert on Top Gear I've absolutely loved that car. It's ugly looks wise but it's under the hood where the machine excels.

I think it was Richard Hammond that reviewed it at the time and mentioned how basically everything on it can be adjusted precisely to your specifications. You could probably even have the wheel nuts made out of chocolate if you wanted (maybe the driver of the crashed motor did :D).

Love the Gumpert. What a stonking good car it is.

How do you mean? It's in Germany, they are meant to be on the left there.

Speed had to have been a factor, lucky they could walk away from that one though.

    tis a rear engined supercar

front crumple zone has probably detached, making it look very short at the front (front wheels missing too :o)

20 year old male + 19 year old female + Gumpert Apollo = recepie for disaster

You can tell by the photos of the car that your man was driving a 'little' faster than 80 kph:D!

I swear if that were my son, let's just say he wouldn't be alive now....

In all fairness they are lucky to be alive. That wreck looks scary now.

It looks fine, a bit dramatic in it's appearance but a bit of duct tape and carbon fibre and it'll be grand.

Assuming the son has a generous pocket money allowance he can buy his dad this:

    http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2448253.htm

edit: I thought it looked familiar. It's the actual one Hammond drove on Top Gear. Knowing now that it's been thrashed by the previous owner, I'd knock, oooh say £50k off the asking price? Times are tough too these days. Have to pinch every penny!
