we have 3 at the moment, two female and a male. one of the females is pregnant and due to foal in a month or so.
Dad wants to sell of one of them then as 4 donkeys around the place might be a bit much.
If you are getting it for kids might be an idea to make sure you know what you are getting. Some can be bad humoured, kick and bite.
Our location would be east galway if any more interest let me know.

think they only place them in pairs though as they get lonely.

Can someone tell me whats the attraction in the past 12 months or so with donkeys, Im in east galway myself and at least four of my neighbours have gotten into donkeys. There worse than a shed full uf newly weaned weanlings for roaring about the place i cant understand why anyone would want them,:( but then i suppose if nothing else they break the silence in the dead of night when out checking a cow or somethin like that

Yep, sancuary only rehome in pairs. Uncle has two from them. Male got a bad going over and only is quiet for me, uncle and his son. Caught the cousin with a kick once that cantona would admire, so id mention the thing about kids. Nice route to go but make sure you are always up to date on vet checks, vaccinations, feet etc, as they can call at anytime for spot checks. Thankfully they are pleased with them but if your short 50quid and put off the feet etc for a week or so, you'll hear about it id say!!!

Personnaly if its for the kids and if it will get attention everyday, id get a foal. But they do get lonely on their own so you'd have to keep it company

at the moment I am sure you would find one in rescue. Unfortunetly so many being left to fend for themselves. If I remember correctly EGAR has one. Go to pets and animals section for better help I imagine.

When I was a child years ago looking for an Ass, or donkey as some people call them, my Grandfather told me they were only good for doing two jobs: Taking in hay and putting out dung!

    Alderdeer,
im not familiar with the attraction as my uncle has his his 14yrs now. But i would reckon it may have something to do with them being a lot cheaper than horses, if its the last 12 months or so.

I second the rescue option- the Donkey Sanctuary or the ISPCA would have some for rehoming, I'd imagine. And given the state of equines in general in this country it would be nice to take one from a rescue centre, in my opinion. Those places are usually good about assessing temperment and letting you know if they're suitable for handling by children.

The greatest destroyer of briars on planet earth:)
Turn off the power to your boundary fence, and run another elecrified line 15 feet in from the boundary fence. Try doing it one field at a time!

Borrow a half dozen asses, and watch the boundary fence being cleaned up like you never saw before. Move to next field. Beats the strimmer any day.
Wait till nice bit of green regrowth has acurred, and blast away with weed killer.
