The Gardai were hand delivering car theft warnings in the area today. Has anyone had a tracking device fitted to their car?

If so, how much did it cost, where was it done and are there ongoing costs with it?

    Thanks in advance

another option is to hook up a fuel cut off. you can wire it up to the fuel pump, fuel pump relay or find out what wire comes from the ecu and do that. i fitted one on my integra type r. i had it in work so they cut the fence where they were 2 dogs. done the buisness got into the car but couldnt start it so left it their. so it was worth the 5 euro and my hours work. so its a option but doesnt stop them pulling it up unto a trailer tho. just stops the quick smash and grab.

Maybe a Buddy Tracker, about the size of a USB stick so it can be used for anything (was originally designed for kids and pets I think but can be hidden in the car).

Did anyone get one of these?

I've enquired at local garages / auto electrics and they have no knowledge of them.

Thanks. Thinking on, considering an immobiliser is fitted to the vehicle, theft of it would be unlikely.

This would be for a van. Other security measures to be considered are security locks and/or an alarm.

Any views on which - locks or alarm or both?

Also, any idea of costs for alarm / security locks?

    Thanks in advance.

I priced up vans in 2010 with Maple Slam locks on - http://www.maplefleetservices.co.uk/van-locks.html

Cost then was €2,300 (probably a reduced rate as it was for a customer with a lot of vans equipped with Maple systems already). Alarm and additional immobiliser came as part of the job.

Very high security system. Additional key to open any of the doors, and operate the immobiliser. Doors will lock themselves as soon as they are closed. If open doors aren't shut within about 15 seconds then the alarm goes off. Possibly a bit of overkill unless you are shifting around very expensive stuff, or highly confidential stuff.

Keys are stolen nowadays, so an immobiliser means f all.
