Practise Golf Balls

I have finally given into the knowledge that I need to practise to keep my handicap where its currently at. I have never been into practising, maybe hit the range 4 times a year. And then the customary 10 minutes on the putting green before comps. But lately I'm not getting out anywhere near every fortnight, and I lost two shots in one round last year, and have not played to HCap since.

So....anyone know where I can get a big bag of practise balls? My birthday is coming up, things are pretty tight, so thought that I might get the missus to buy me some practise balls. I'm not too worried about the quality really, just ones for the practise ground, so only hitting chips/pitches/up to 8 irons.

    Thanks!

I have a big plastic bucket of balls, mixed quality, mostly Titleist and Maxfli, sitting in my garage annoying the missus, you can have them for €30, collect from Leopardstown

I have bought lake balls from here: http://www.golfbidder.co.uk/golf-balls/31/lake-golf-balls.html a few times - reasonable quality and good service. Works out at about 40p a ball or so.

That sounds good - roughly how many are you talking about?

Someone posted up a list of sites that are good to buy golf stuff on recently on this forum, I thought I had added it to my subscribed threads. Have done a search but cant find it. If anyone comes across if maybe you could let me know. Thanks - was thinking about a little bag for the balls, plus I need an umbrella. Cheers

At a guess, I would say 150-200, some may even be good enough to play a few rounds with. I have a practice ball bag full also, it's a good few years old but in good condition. Are you anywhere near Leopardstown, you could come and have a look if you like.

40 balls is tons. You would only start losing concentration trying to chip 200 balls.
You would find 30 balls if you spent a couple of evenings out looking for balls.
I'm up to 40 now after finding balls while looking for other poeples balls this year. If I find a decent one I get rid of a top flite.
I found that I play the same number of balls every time I practice and count how many I get in and how many I get up and down.
    It's always 40 balls.
My record so far is 2 in the hole and 29 up and down and 9 up and two putts.
Maybe it's just me, but I find that playing the same number of balls each evening helps me to focus more on beating the last evenings result.
Otherwise it juet becomes too easy to lose concentration and then you're not actually practicing.

    Yours etc,
    GSH.

Hi Tommy. No, the one I was looking for had about 6 different sites in one post. It's no hassle, I'll see what I find with my friend Mr Google!

    Agree with GSH.

As I am using Taylormade Pentas for my rounds, I decided to get two dozen practice Pentas for when I practice. I got them when I was in the US for $50.

In hindsight, I probably could have got away with buying one dozen, because when I practice chipping or pitching I work in sets of 10 shots at a time, measure the results, and then collect and start again. Like GSH I like to measure my effectiveness, but I am doing so on each set rather than on my entire practice session.

Thanks for all the advice lads. I take GSH point on the number of balls, might be better to hand onto my old prov's and populate a practise bag with them, rather than go the whole hot with a huge number of balls. My reasoning for the larger number was that we have a practise ground area in the club where you can hit up to 8 iron, would be handy to be able to hit maybe 50 to 60 wedges in a row, without having to go collecting them all the time.
