    Says it all really . . . . .

Anyone else find Matt Cooper's back of the troath cultivation of certain words annoying?
Examples; News pronounced as Noos, the erratic abuse of the TH sound, present in many words & missing in others ((Throughout) sounding very like True-out, the exaggerated letter P, the exggerated letter B. He clearly does'nt know the difference between Thought & Taught, Both is invaribly 'BOAT' Then you have Matt's insistance on introducing the news reader in that dramatic fashion "And now here's your noos wit Juliette Gash" please note, the with is always 'WIT' and the News is always Nooos :D

Anyone else got ideas on Matts 'Last Word' performance?

A person I work with thinks that Matt Cooper sounds a lot like Pat Kenny - I can't say I see (or hear) the similarity myself

    Back of the what?

Exactly, a deliberate error on my part, along with all the other "misspellings" in the 1st post.

See also; Wit, Noos, True-out, Boat, etc :D

Queen Elizebet, witch the news, etc, he's always had a "bogger" afliction regarding the "th" sound but it seems to be getting worse, quite a bit so in the last year.

A while back I heard him interviewing an English guy on the phone, and then he told the guy he was going to 'trout to the listeners'.

The poor guy had no idea what he meant.

His diction is sloppy. There have been many threads about the relative importance of radio presenters having good diction, and without wishing to re-open old wounds, I do think its important.

You're talking to thousands of people on the radio, not talking to your mate down the pub.

    A.

I don't know where Avril is from but it is a common name in Wexford where my wife is from. I remember buying shoes in Hore's Stores on the Main Street.

    A "bogger" affliction ?

I'd say half of Dublin talks like that!

Anyway, where in Cork is he actually from ? City or county ?

Always got the impression its the City or very near to. Anyway, he went to school at North Mon which is at Our Ladys Mount on the northside.

Which would mean that he can't possibly have a "bogger" affliction.

Tony Fenton has to be the worst on radio, all the fake laughing and name dropping, then there was his 50th birthday back in Feb when the guy is really 53.

I've never noticed it that much to be honest. And to be fair, Matt's one of the best broadcasters doing this sort of programme. Much better than the alternative shows on at the same time as him as well.

    Queen Elizabett indeed

He also says 'wit' instead of with, and true-out the day instead of 'Throughout', he also confuses Thought with Taught!!! sounds very sloppy to me, but then maybe most people don't care? and they obviously don't care at Today FM, otherwise somebody would have corrected him.

I think he is from Bishopstown. That's in the back of my mind for some reason. It's an accent, I'm sure you have one too OP!

    To quote TwentyMajor blog:
"I know it’s childish… but I laugh every time I hear the news being read by Juliette Gash or a report by Francesca Cummin. Thank God Malachy Twococks is retired."
