Odd for an average handicap. Protest over the prize money?

/\ Its not a big race so no prices until Saturday.

Its been a while since there was a walkover - 2007.

Hahaha,so will the owners be given the money or will the horse have to just run?

The horse will have to run and complete the "race" in order for the prize money to be claimed.

Can anyone suggest a betting market for this race?

Could refuse to race or break down...

I wonder if the handicapper will drop him a few pounds for completing in a slow time :D

Hope the jockey doesn't get a ban for use of the whip.

If the saddle slips can the jockey remount in a flat race these days?

Heard on Sky Sports News that the owner of the horse is giving some of the prize money to charity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,237 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

    That actually makes sense.
If owner/trainers 'arranged' one horse races on a regular basis the organisers would still have to pay out.
They wouldnt be long putting up proper prize money then.
    Must mention that elsewhere ;-)

There is a set amount of prize money for each race right? and the winner gets a set percentage or fraction of that right? but if only one horse is entered, then does that horse receive all the prize money on offer? including all place money?

Not as interesting as Peopleton Brooks win at Kempton

Probably works the same as if only two horses finish a race.
Not sure how its shared normally.

You could well be right, but if a race would normally pay the first 5 home and only 3 are entered, don't they reconfigure the percentages to fit the 3 runners? I have no evidence to suggest they do by the way...

Haha the fella was hammered in that video Nulty.

Kicking King got beaten by some hurler in a 100m race down at Limerick I think it was a few months ago. Betting was 1/4 KK and 5/2 the fella.

Sadly PP do not have it listed even for a laugh, I'll listen to the williamhill commentary for it though ! :p

The jockey will have his 1st ever winner today. Least it will be a very memorable win!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

they didn't even need to finish the race...they got about a furlong and a bit.

Another walkover today Kelso 4.15 with three non-runners. Our Jim looks like a winner (he probably would have anyway)

To be fair todays only happened as Tim Vaughns box ran out of diesel! But yep there are a lot of very small feilds at the moment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Haha Mike is that the reason?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

True. His whole Kelso string on the side of the road! I'd say someone got an earful over the phone :p

Aw if I was the owner of a horse due to run I would be very, very pissed off. How unprofessional is that

I was working at the Galway Races a few years ago when the connections of a little known horse at the time called Hide The Evidence were popping Champaigne from Midday as they were so confidant of him winning his race.
Things turned a bit sour though when they got a call telling them the horsebox was on its way to Mallow!!
Everything turned out well in its next few races though winning a few at big prices.
