    Hey,

After reading another thread here and I didn't want to hijack it I decided to ask like this.
Since I am from Germany I don't really have references in the country. I always do include my former employer in Germany with the remark "German only". I also usually add a letter of recommendation to my application.
Unfortunately said letter is self-translated (original is in German) as I have no way to afford to pay a translation.

Just wondering if any of this would have a negative influence. I usually bring the original with me to an interview but so far they only looked at it and checked for a signature.

Written references are most often followed up by a phone call any way due to the fact anyone could have written the reference (inc. you). Hence I'd not worry about the translation not being "official" since they would need to call and verify it any way.

as long as the person who is giving you a reference speaks english when an employer calls you don't have a problem.if they don't,you might need to find someone else within your old job of a similar level who does.

Well, I am currently applying for jobs with German customer support...so there is pretty much a chance that they have someone ready that speaks German. There is one or two ppl on my old job that speak some English, not much though....

Edit: Update here though, got a video interview via skype on monday! Anyone had an interview with Big Fish games lately? I'd simply LOVE to work for them and don't want to mess up!
