Looking at upgrading my Passat 03 1.6 petrol,, love the passat but obviously wish i had a TDI as she is quiet thirsty,, was looking going for the 05+ newer model,,
also looking at some civic hybrids but they are so scarce,, wonder is this due to being an automatic?
    or any other recommendations ?

not a fast driver,, i like to sit back these days and relax these days

Oh dear, you just mentioned the H word ........ lol

Seriously, try one and see; you might be surprised. (most of the hybrid knockers here have never even sat in one, let alone driven one)

H for Honda or Hybrid :D glad I didn't mention the Prius
I just like the design and the relability,, doesn't make a whole lot difference that its a Hybrid ,, mpg looks to be v appealing in these times
if anyone has any let me know what u think

About a year ago, I went searching for something different.
I'm sure if you search back far enough you should find my posts.
Anyway, I 'tested' a few Civic Hybrids, and for what they are they work very well.
There are a couple of Prius owners here on Boards, and they mentioned that I should try one; just for pig-iron if nothing else...lol
Long story, but I opted for a Prius over the Civic Hybrid. Unfortunately I never thought about trying an Insight.
After initial 'doubts', my partner now can't keep out of it...;)
One day I might be able to be allowed drive it again....:rolleyes:
    Good luck in your search.

Is most of your driving in town or on open roads?

A hybrid will be of little use to you if you spend most of your time outside of cities as the petrol engine will be in use most of the time. The electric motor will only come into the equation at low speeds which is more suited to town driving. If you are doing mostly commuting on motorways, etc then a diesel will be more frugal.

Just take note though that the newer shape Passats had lots of reliability issues from 2005 to early 2007.
