Hi, I'm traveling between Dublin Heuston and Tallaght tomorrow with a lot of stuff incl. boxes etc and wondering how much a taxi fare would estimate to?

Bus or luas not an option.

    Thanks :D

    Edit:

I did try http://www.worldtaximeter.com/dublin - but no results

    Distance: 12.49 km. | Duration: 23 min.

    first kilometer 4.10 €
    12.49 km. x 1.03 € per km (tariff A) 12.87 €
    waiting in traffic (~8 min.) 2.90 €

That site is usually about right but I'd not trust that reading to Tallaght for three reasons...
    1. From Heuston to Tallaght a taxi has to head inwards onto the quay and into an awkward right turn over the Liffey onto Watling Street and it's infamously slow light changes. This has at times taken me 20 minutes in heavy traffic
    2. Tallaght can be anywhere from Greenhills to Saggart, Firhouse, Kiltipper or Newlands Cross; a end location would help far more.
    3. Lastly, time of day can hurt the few routes into Tallaght. Most of the day it won't be too bad but anytime from 3:30PM can get slow and heavy.

Why wouldn't the taxi cross the bridge and turn left onto Conyngham Road, turn left onto South Circular and the out onto the N4 and head on to the M50. Crossing at the bridge you mentioned can make no sense for the reasons you've mentioned.

Indeed the worldtaximeter.com site picked the same route as me.

    http://taxiregulation.nationaltransport.ie/for-users/tax-fare-calculator/

The fare can be anything from 18 to 26.40 depending on the time of day, traffic etc and given thats it a Friday traffic can be heavy especially around Heuston.

I notice in recent months, taxi drivers are so grateful for the fair they accept less then meter. eg: €11-12 they just say a tenner, I usually round up to the next 5 myself.
Give him €25, if its more on meter he's ripping you off.
If its around €20, he's decent skin, and deserves the tip :-)

I get cabs 2-3 times a week, €10-15 and at least half the time they forget to turn on the meter, and just say "ah sure whatever", especially on local runs.
And before the synics jump up, its not a scam, they are just glad of the work.

Thanks guys. I'm headed into the square. Between €18-€25 sounds reasonable. I tought it would be up to like €40 LOL

Well firstly you cannot make generalisations saying taxi drivers will accept less than the metered price and saying give him 25 euro if its more his ripping you off.
You cannot accurately assume the fare is going to be 25 or less and if it does go above that on the meter ,then thats the price .
Making comments like hisw is ripping you off ,is wrong and is insinuating that the driver is somehow ripping the passenger off..
You have to take into account traffic delays ect ect .
Those that you say "forget" to put on the meter are breaking the law..
ALL taxi journeys have to be on the meter unless a waiver form and price is agreed on ,though that seldom happens ........

from the taxi regulalators site it says it is just over 10km and should cost €14-€21.80 depending on traffic and based on a journey time between 19 and 35 minutes.

€17.40-€26.20 on premium rate(Sunday's late nights bankrolls etc)

Add €2 if you pre-book and €1 for each additional passenger after yourself. There is no charge for luggage! But the meter will be running while you are loading and unloading your stuff!

You could of course use the Luas Red Line for under €3.

Yes indeed the poster could but its no joke carrying boxes and trying to get on and off the luas and then home. For the few quid extra its a lot less hassle.

The Luas stop isn't all that much further than the taxi rank. At Tallaght, I imagine a taxi could be obtained relatively easily and for an overall lower cost. Its a matter of balancing cost and conveenience.
