Buying W7 on eBay. Guideprice and what to look for?

So i got myself into the world of Windows 7.
Only thing is that i got no media, only the ever so usual "Recovery-mode"

And the best he could offer me was Home Premium for i think it was somewhere around 180 euros.

Then i turned to eBay and had a look at different versions.
So without infringing on any charters i would like to know what the guideprice to look for in relation to W7 Ultimate would be?

Did this make sense? I've been up all night trying to recover data, so i apologize.

I wouldn't buy software from eBay. I've seen countless complaints from people that the Windows 7 keys and software they buy off eBay are fake or won't pass activation. Definitely avoid eBay. :)

Amazon.co.uk have Windows 7 Ultimate at a discount for €190 (£167.00, not including shipping). Alternatively, the Microsoft Store have it for €270 (£238.98).

Also, have a look at this review of Windows 7, bought before the release date from eBay. :D

    Crap.. That means i cannot get Windows 7. I don't have a floppydrive. :D

And i have realized that i won't need more than Home Premium. But the prices don't differ that much so, hey who knows.

    Thanks for the input. :)

if you're a student or know someone who is, you can get the upgrade edition on software4students for only €45...you need XP or Vista on your computer to run it though

Home Premium is out of stock but Professional is the same price as it anyway

    Hi,

I bought a laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. It didn't come with a Windows 7 CD. I want to wipe the laptop and install fresh. Where can I get a CD with Windows 7 without buying a new copy. I have the activation key. Can I get someone to copy the Windows 7 CD and use it on my laptop.

    Thanks.

without knowing the brand of laptop it's difficult to say where the restore image / dvd burning program etc. is stored on the laptop

make the copy from the laptop, and when you have verified it worked , make a copy of the copy before you do the fresh install

don't forget to Identify and backup the drivers first or you may find you have painted you self into a corner

Thanks for the reply. How do I make a copy from the laptop? I don't want to install all the Sony software back onto the laptop that came preinstalled on it.

    Sorry for the late reply.

The data was from 2 disks from my old Sony Vaio VGN AR 61S
I tried various recovery software, but since sony had the drives in a software Raid0 setup, all i got was scrambled or damaged data.

    So that's 260gb gone.
I'm not a student, and i have spotted the offer here on boards earlier.
I'll just get a copy of it from Amazon. so far the best prices there. :)

You could try these instructions to try and get your data back from the raid array - it's not easy, but worth a try if you haven't already wiped/repurposed the disks...
