there was talk last night at a county rgc meeting about changing duck season from 1st sep to 1st oct and bringing pheasant forward to 1st oct also.
i thought it was a good idea considering, i shot a malard drake last year, 3 weeks into the season. he was only starting to feather. his head was just going green.
    your opinions please.

ps. both species will close jan 31st as normal!

IMO both seasons should be 1st Nov to 31 Jan

Moving the season for Ducks back to 15 September would give the young ducks a better chance. A couple of weeks makes a big difference at that age.

And who came up with this?

I won't be any more popular among genuine game shooters than the extension this year I reckon

Surely this will require legislation to change it or can the Minister do it with an SI?

And then ther is our European Masters to consider too .........................

Seems the driven shoots and money are calling the shots now :(

Maybe if they consulted their members in advance they'd be better off

And then again not all game shooters are even in NARGC

my point exactly bunny it'd be interesting to find out what % of shooters are in the nargc yet they think they speak for all

there was no vote. this is not in affect and maybe never will be. there was just talk about it and what we thought about it.
i was just wondering what the views where on here about it.

This wont make much difference to the ducks but will slaughter 100's more pheasants. I know the cold weather ban is torture on some hunters the last two seasons but as is life, the birds have it tough enough so never mind more shooting time they have to put up with.

Very little people from what Ive seen shoot duck anyway in September because they have morals and give the young ones a chance. Off course I know bucket loads of lads that'll be out banging away for death at pheasants if the season is extended..

Somehow now I think some pheasant hungry group who dont care about preserbing a few birds wanted a longer season and to play ball they said they'd cut the duck season shorter.

Thanks for clearing that up. At least NARGC are not doing pandering to the wishes of a few bag hunters anyway.

IMO as I stated above both seasons should be Nov 1 to Jan 31 and no extensions no matter what weather does.

Totally agree with you, a lot of young pheasants are fairly miserable looking feather wise till the end of November anyway, bring it forward you may as well shoot the eggs in the nest.I bread up to 300 birds for our club ,spend days feeding and looking after them, really gets on my tits when arse holes shoot a bird that is not even fully feathered or has no tail.

You don't have to shoot at everything thats flying in front of you either ... if you see a young bird then take the gun down. you control the trigger. I think 1st of october is a good date for both.

it is fine the way it is and should not be changed.Changing it will only give the job ****es out there more time to slaughter what they want.

at the same meeting, there was a lot of talk about the use of lead shot over wet lands. as we all know, its just a matter of time before the ban comes into affect like in the uk and ni. imo ireland will follow suit and i think eventually we,l have the same hunting and shooting seasons as the uk aswell.

Rules and/or laws..............are only there for those who'll obey them ;)

I know lots of pheasants are shot in my area annually under the guise of duck shooting ! If seasons were the same it MIGHT stop some of the cowboys.

Is the season in GB for pheasants not October? No difference to me on the ducks I dont shoot them till November anyway.

As Jim said they are looking for opinion its not set in stone, however the lead over wetlands is on its way down the road as in the UK, it wont be long before we is getting fined on that one for not introducing the ban.

Actually at this stage its a case of just put it on the bill:D:D
