The Boards deal is back, missed it last time but not going to this time

    http://www.boardsdeals.ie/

Is your car's NCT coming up? Or maybe you just want to let your car know that you care? Regardless, keep your vehicle running safe and trouble free.

Today's Boards Deal gets you a €99 voucher against a car service at one of six Atlas Tyres & Autoservice locations for only €30!

Atlas offers you a bumper-to-bumper comprehensive '17 point inspection' car service performed by a fully qualified mechanic. What's more, you can use your voucher in any one of six Dublin locations!

Atlas service all makes and models of car. Your service will include:
    - Four standard spark plugs (Atlas only use NGK sparkplugs)
    - Air and oil filter
    - Up to five litres of oil (Atlas only use ELF oil)
    - A comprehensive 17 point inspection

Redeem your voucher at Dorset Street, Kimmage, Tallaght, Drumcondra, Finglas or Kylemore Road!

How much does it cost to get my car serviced at Atlas?
The price of a car service varies depending on the size of the engine:
    >1,000cc - RRP €99, you pay €30 with BoardsDeals for a full service!
    >1,400cc - RRP €139, you pay €70 - €30 for the voucher and a €40 supplement to the garage
    >1,600cc - RRP €159, you pay €90 - €30 for the voucher and a €60 supplement to the garage
    >2,000cc - RRP €199, you pay €130 - €30 for the voucher and a €100 supplement to the garage

During the 17 point inspection if your mechanic feels that any further work or parts are required in addition to sparkplugs, air & oil filters and oil, you'll be quoted for any additional costs before work commences. Likewise, any cars requiring original equipment parts to service will carry an extra charge - all extra charges will be explained fully before work commences.

So parts will not be oem? That could cause a problem with any warranty claims if it is the case.

Pricing is frustrating - the missus drives a 1.4 Polo and so has to pay an additional €40 even though the oil/filter/plugs will be basically the same price and the service will be basically identical to the 1.0 Polo.

    Hmmm...

    Hmmm...

Agreed, the increases for engine size are a bit mental

The varying charges for engine size is a tad unfair, a 1.4 Corolla won't use €60 less parts than a 2.0 Avensis.

The surcharge for OE parts is fair enough, basically they will advise folk with cars under warranty that OE parts are required and they may well cost more then the parts in the blanket price list. Most garages would do this, using OE parts for under warranty cars to ensure the customer's warranty is fully protected. However if I was paying €200 to service a new ish Avensis or whatever I would expect there is enough fat in the €200 for OE filters to be used.

Even with the voucher, the price is only €20 less for my 2 litre car than a main dealer I called the other day quoted me. If there was a surcharge for OEM parts it would probably make up that €20. I know where I would have my car serviced, especially while under warranty.

For a smaller car it's good value, but the structure of the pricing is a bit off the wall.

would it not be better to advertise a €69 discount on any service instead of trying to make out its a bargain car service for only €30* (offer only applies to 1L engines)

I think I wont be availing of this particular offer and will get my service from my local mechanic for €129 (1.8L Diesel)

which is the same as the "discounted one" on offer ...and I will get OEM Parts !!!

This intrigued me a bit so I made some calls.

Car: Honda Integra TypeR, 1.8 Petrol

Advance want €200 for servicing my car (Plugs/Oil/Oil Filter/Air Filter)
    Honda ballparked me at €350-€400 (Plugs/Oil/Oil Filter/Air Filter/Pollen Filter)

So it seems good enough value for what it is and excellent value for smaller engined cars

But for real value maybe speak to an Indy, my Indy does it cheaper again, uses Millers Oil and will use OEM filters if requested.

All I need though is an oil/oil filter change, I use iridium plugs and an air filter for life

4 unfortunately, 2 per rotor. Bloody expensive ones too especially if you go OEM.

Lads the prices quoted above based on engine sizes etc are just the guidline price to your average person on the street an idea of what they will be spending as this sort of pricing brake down has become the norm amongst many independant chains.

The service that each car gets will depend on the indevidual cars servicing requirements for its type, engine, mileage and service history.

All parts used are OEM quality parts and cannot, legally, effect your warrenty. How grumpy main dealers get about it is a different story but your statutory rights are never effected by where you choose to have the car maintained once it is done in accordance with manufacturer requirements.

eg: some cars will be due an oil/air/plugs service, which will be done for the relevant price above, some will be due and oil change, brake fluid change and pollen filter, this will be done for the same price if sparks and air are not required and so on...

If any items were due that runs the cost above the quoted fixed price, you would be informed, quoted and your go ahead would be needed before we would do any work beyond the originally quoted price.

We all love to think that someone is trying to do us for everything in this country but when I am servicing a car, it gets the service it needs, its that simple, there is nothing hidden for all the budding CSI's out there to find I'm afraid!

Don't worry, we all expect to be upsold on additional services or extra work, but for the moment I'd like to be able to budget for the standard service, and I'm not sure how much I'll be paying or how fair it is.

I wouldn't buy the €30 voucher until I can get that established.

    Simples! :D

P.S. do you know why Atlas Sandyford isn't included in the deal?

Well, and this has been covered in a couple of threads at this stage, over selling will ALWAYS bite you in the ass sooner or later and the damage to reputaion etc is never worth any initial money made.

If you sent me the details of your car/mileage etc I can tell you exaclty what is due and give you a quote.

As for why sandyford isn't included....I have no idea is the simple answer.:o

99 Polo 1.4 with 80,000 miles. T-belt done at last service. Brake fluid possibly due. NCT due in 2 months.

I'd like to get the oil and filter changed (and spark plugs if required) and get a 17 point inspection done before I send it through the test.

I'd be happy to pay €30 to save myself the hassle of crawling around under the car, I'd be less happy paying €70.

Not much to quote for unfortunately :).

I still think it's a good offer but for small engined cars it's excellent. Maybe the 2L one isn't as good as the rest but there's no question for me the smaller engined deal is fantastic. I have read a lot of Nissan Doctor's posts and I'd give him my car to work on in a shot.
