Class action scenes...crap movies

There seem to be a fair few really crappy movies with excellent action scenes that hint at a greater potential.

Take The Matrix Reloaded. Overblown plot, hokey dialogue, no sense of structure or pacing, too many 2D characters, far too much reliance on make-it-up DIY New Age philosophising. And yet...mmmm...this rules...

Then there's Star Wars I, a shambles really. No one to root for, a garbled political plotline, no real sense of danger. But then Maul comes along and shows us true evil, Liamo suddenly drops the mumbling mentor act and gets on with the Jedi kickassery, and look, awesome blue pillars of light, epic two-way swordbattles, why didn't they just do more of this!!

Superman Returns was a creepy rip-off of a classic and completely redundant, overlong, boring, and did I mention creepy? Action scenes were few and far between, Supes was somewhat unlikeable, Lex was boring, and Lois Lane was 17 years old from the looks of it. Where was the danger, the adventure? Oh, in this one scene...

Nearly all Jackie Chans films once he learned English.

Say what you will, but the matrix reloaded was imo a worthy follow up, I loved all the philosophizing, euro cool and pretentiousness and I found it reasonably good overall. Matrix 3 wasn't as good but as a trilogy I really liked the conceptually.

it was like they half read 'a complete idiots guide to philosophy' then decided to make a film before understanding any of it. they ruined the mythology with those two movies which is quite a shame as it definitely had potential.

I was trying to think of something from Transformers 2 but that whole movie is beyond garbage and I really don't want to bring back any memories of watching that crap.

The freeway chase in Bad Boys 2, the movie itself is overlong, overblown and not that good, did I mention overlong? two and a half hours is not necessary for an action movie!

But this scene is great, if theres one thing Bay knows how to do its a car chase, starts about 5min20 into this clip:

Because thematically its the worst of the lightsaber fights, its just overchoreograped and pointless, its 3 guys who dont know who each other are or exactly why they're fighting only that one of them is EVIL. And its only to serve as a distraction so as a teenage queen can kidnap a politician. Yeah thats the climax of a Star Wars movie. Not a massive assault on a gigantic space station, or a showdown between father and son, nope, a girl looking to kidnap a politician to settle a trade dispute. Awesome.

The Clone Wars animated series is how the prequels should have been, it sh1ts on the movies from a great height, even the games are better, have a gawk at this for some lightsaber kick assery:

That clip is probably better than the entire SW prequel movies put together, why is the person least qualified to direct a SW movie is George Lucas himself?

But if the movie was like that how would we know which way the galactic senate voted?

Dammit you're right, I dont think I could haved handled the suspense not knowing how the trade dispute worked out. The line that always makes me laugh is someone saying to Padme that "our people are dying!" errr...because they havent had supplies for a few DAYS? We dont even see the trade federation killing any Naboobians or whatevre the hell they're called, they just put a blockade around the planet and occupied them. stupid, stupid movie. If I rewatch the series I just watch the trailer for episode one then jump into episode two, its less painful.

Darth Maul was in my opinion a potential equal to Vader in terms of badassery. Yet rather than explore his nature and intent, we see him die rather graphically and that's that, back to politics.

Couldn't agree more, he brought a bit of tension to proceedings, but then he's killed off and then next two films have poor follow up villains in the form of crusty old Christopher Lee (who I generally like, but he just didn't fit the role), and Emperor Pantomime*

On topic Transporter 2 is fairly thrashy kinda stuff but the action scenes were decent.

Only 15-25 horses were harmed in the making of this scene...

My god, seriously, how many horses were harmed/killed in this scene?!?!

    Epic scene though!
