Was out this evening for crow patrol;) when i came across a few holes which had been dug which got me thinking something was using them. so i decided to get myself up in a tree over looking the 6 holes. Alot of time went by LOL

When it got a-bit darker i could here something coming out of one hole and looked down to see a badger sticking his head out before venturing out of the hole:(, so i was just about to get out of the tree when the other hole had something coming out as well:eek:. It was a bit darker now so i flipped the small torch on and out pops 2 foxes and i planted them:D It got me thinking how a fox and a badger live together without killing each other?

Not unusual. Foxes will use holes dug by badgers. There are old references from England where badgers used to be moved around to areas where the gentry wanted to increase numbers of foxes for hunting. In Poland, raccoon dogs also co-exist with badgers in the same sett, basically exploiting their digging skills.

Years ago I remember just before dark in this old estate of woodland and meadows, a badger literally ran into me - I know their eyesight is bad so he probably didn't smell me eithier!!. It was like being hit by a sturdy sheep and he basically flattened me. The funny thing was the badger stopped a few yards away and started taking an interest in the small terrier I had with me. The pair of them proceeded to have a game of tag for about 5 minutes until the badger had enough craic for the night and disappeared - they definatly are the closest thing we have to yogi-bear!!:D:cool:

I used to work in some old prefabs with a badger set under them. If I was working late I'd hear all sorts of weird noises under the floor. Once a young badger got onto the roof (probably after birds nests) and fell through a rotten section. We had a pretty hair raising time evicting him the next morning. The brush I used to shoo him out ended up covered in some serious bite marks. I can tell you I was ready to leap onto the nearest chair if he came at me!

a couple of years ago i was helping a friend set up a field archery course in a 150 acre mature wood complete with badger setts and badgers we were carrying the targets around to their positions, they were large animal targets pasted onto corri board i had a bundle of 4x4ft ones under one arm and mark who was in front of me had an 8x4 one with a large deer target on it .now mark is an army lad and was dressed in his work gear boots and all .
There is a large badger sett on part of the course and as we approached it i could see a half grown lad scratching in the bushes looking for bugs etc , mark didn’t see him and the badger cub didn’t see us as we got a bit closer it dawned on young broc that there was a human present and panic set in ,he made a fast and furious attempt to go home quickly trouble was mark was between him and his sett mark saw him flying towards him and shouted f88k instantly assesed the situation with his sharp military mind and stuck the 8x4 sheet of corriboard firmly on the ground as a barrier between him and broc , broc had his head down and kept pushing and shoving trying to get through mark was shouting and yelling f88k f88k f8kk he’s trying to get me at this point i was on the floor tears rolling down my cheeks it seems to last for ages probably was less than a minute the cub eventually realised that retreat was the best option and ran off down another entrance but it was so funny

Foxes could have seen you coming and ran to ground so their visit was only tempory. Cant imagine a Badger putting up with the foxes stink.

The oldest earth in the local wood has both badgers and foxes in it. The lads who have lived here all their lives say for as long as they can remember there have always been badgers and foxes using it. On saying that it is a big network of tunnels working roughly into a half acre area. I know they are connected because as I have said already let a terrier in one spot and he will pop out where you least expect him.
