I'v bare concrete stairs and I'd be interested to here how people have finished them. More so the soffit (exposed) and string edge.

There's a fairly smooth finish on my stairs, and I'm wondering is there a special pre-treatment prior to applying finishing (release oil used on shutter)

What balustrade are you going for? Glass, metal, wood? This would have a big impact in how you finish the threads and the string.

I'm leaning towards glass and metal framework for balustrade. My stairs is straight, one side against a full building height wall.
It goes to a landing , turns 90 degress, and a landing runs back overhead ( parallel to the straight flight)
I'd like the string finish to match the end view of the above floor,( the landing) if you know what I mean.

I'm wondering can the string be skimmed, or attach plasterboard, or is there a better way to do this.

You can skim the concrete, just need to brush on pva/polybond on the concrete before skimming.
