Hi Folks, looking for some advice on joining a course. I've narrowed it down finalcially to a choice between Citywest 5 day membership, Dublin city 5 day member ship and Bodenstown full membership. All in and around the same price and all within a reasonible distance from home. Anyway I'd appreciate some suggestions particularly from members of each if possible.

    Thanks in advance.

    W

I'm not a member of any of them. However, I've played two of them and by far the best of those would be Citywest I'd say, but given the state of that group I'd worry about its future to be honest...

I don't know Dublin City (Do you mean the Dublin Mountain one beside South County on the Blessington Road?) but Bodenstown is awful. Its grand for a casual game with a few mates but doesn't stand up to any scrutiny in my (naturally expert ;)) book.

How much are you looking to spend? There are a load of courses out that way...

Bodenstown is a kip, badly run and the owner does not give a s**t, only interested in the money. I was a member there for 2 years, couldnt wait to get out of it.

Thanks guys. Sounds like bodenstown is a no go. The only plus was that it was full membership. So that just leaves Dublin City and Citywest. Citywest is a really good course but a little short and haven't played Dublin city in a few years. Anatom no its Dublin City it's actually on the same mountain as Dublin Mountain just on the other side if I remember correctly. Theres also South County as well as it's around €800 but just waiting on info back. I'm looking around the €800 as my cut off total amount as I'm not good enough to spend large amounts of money just yet. Will keep looking around as I'm not home till November.

Thanks again guys for your inputs so far.

Dublin City is actually really good value - you can get 5 day membership for 600 euro or full for 980 (with no signing on fee). Course is in good nick and very challenging. And no - it's not Dublin Mountain but on the other side of the hill near Bohernabreena resevoir.

Cheers again for all the replies lads. I'll take the week once I'm home and try Dublin City, Woodlands, Citywest and I'll stick in Newbridge aswell just to have a fourth and make a decision from there.

    Thx,

what are you trying to get out of your membership?

Play it a few times a week?

    Play it every weekend?

Just to use it as a base but will be playing opens mostly?

Hi Trampas, to start getting out once or twice a week. Weekend probably not as I'll be working so that will be the odd occassion. And over time once I get more consistant possibly move into opens.

    Thx,

    Wayne

Wayne, I'm a new member in DCGC. Joined 2 weeks back with the reduced green fee option of €390 for 12 months. Great option for me. I like it so far and there seems to be plenty of competitions etc each week, ramping up now for summer too.

I'm happy to play a round up there with you if you would like to play with a member. Private message if you want.

Highfield Golf club near Edenderry has quiet a lot of Dublin members. Full membership is €595 per year and if a current member brings you in there is a discount of €200. You therefore get full membership for €395 and that is good value. It's another option for you.
