If you're looking for parties try and get to Koh Phangan for either a Full moon party or at least a Half Moon, schedule is here http://fullmoonparty-thailand.com/

The rest of the islands are a good bet,Koh Samui, Koh Tao,or Phuket and and Koh Phi Phi.

    http://www.travelfish.org/feature/43

You can also travel north for more trekking etc but someone else will give you better info on that I'm sure

Im also going to Thailand for 3 weeks in September. Flying into Bangkok and then heading down to the islands to get in the full moon party amongst other things.

How much money would I roughly need for the 3 weeks for accommodation and food?

A friend said €350 would be more than enough for 3 weeks?

I'd imagine you'd want a little more than that. I'd imagine you'd survive on 350, but the more you can bring the better the time you'd have.

Excluding 2 diving courses, I spent 700 in 4 weeks. I didn't really do anything extravagant, but at the same time I was spending my money freely enough.

Thanks, he said €350 would be grand for the 3 weeks, but I only remembered him being there for 2 weeks, so that would be in line with what you said. I'll budget for €500 for the 3 weeks, but will have €100 emergency money just in case I go a bit overboard!

    €500 for 3 weeks?,are you for real??

Back in 2009 i stayed in Thailand for eleven nights and i spent €4,000,but different strokes for different folks i suppose :)

Even with 500 for 3 weeks its not really a lot of money in thailand anymore with the exchange rate gone away down and the price of living getting higher in thailand, like it will do you for food and a few drinks everynight but don't expect to go on to many tours with this amount.

By the way i have been looking for flights around that time myself how much have you paid for your flights ?

OP You're probably better off ignoring my advice. Its been a long time since I was in Thailand and from what others are saying, its got more expensive. Apologies for misleading you!

I went 2 months travelling through Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia and only spent 1500 in them 2 months always staying in air con rooms when we could and just not letting ourselves get ripped off. About 3 hundred of that was clothes.

4 grand in 11 nights is just ridiculous!!

Maybe for it is,but not for me,its only money for gods sake, and if i have it ill spend it,i travel to Thailand twice a year for 3 weeks a time and each of my trips i budget at around €5k that's including flights accommodation etc.The reason i spent €4k in eleven nights was because i had a 3 week trip planned but i couldn't get the time off work so i had to change my flights etc,and i had the money already for the 3 weeks so i spent it in the eleven nights instead.

Well you said the 500 in 2 weeks was unreal. I was just telling the person its not unreal. Of course you can go blow 300 quid a day if you want but as you say different strokes!

You can spend as much as you want. I spent a few hundred per night for accommodation in the Shangri-La in Bangkok and then 12€ a day for a beach hut in Haad Rin. Now that was a long time ago so prices have probably gone up. But you could easily get by on about €25 a day back then. Drink was cheap, especially from the supermarket instead of the bars and you can sit on the beach and drink away. I remember paying the equivalent of €2 for a sandbucket, bottle of coke, naggin of rum and a bottle of red bull.

I have stayed in Koh Phangan for about a year so I can give you some prices, you might find "better deals" out there. This is more realistic though.

1 night in low end bungalow 8-10 Euro
1 night in aircon bungalow 20-30 Euro
1 Thai meal (from small restaurants and market) 1-3 Euro
1 Beer (330 CL bottle) 1 Euro in shops and about 1.5 Euro in most bars
Ticket to fullmoon party 2.5 Euro
1 bucket at fullmoon party 5-8 Euro
    1 hour massage 6-8 Euro
1 day scuba diving 50-70 Euro
    1 day rent a motorbike 5-8 Euro

Thailand is not as cheap as it used to, the Baht is about 40 to the Euro now that does not help ether.

As you need to calculate at least 160 Euro for 20 nights that would leave 200 Euro for food and pleasure. I would up the budget even doubled or tripled it for 3 weeks.

From my experience €250 a week will keep you eating, drinking, travelling and sleeping well.

How is it even possible to spend 4k in 11 nights? You wouldnt come close to spending that much in Norway, how on earth did you manage that in Thailand?!?

+1. I'd love to know this! I'm not being judgmental by the way, it's your money and I'm sure you had a great trip, but I didn't even think it would be possible to spend that.

Even looking at 5 star hotels in Bangkok - they're only about 60-80 quid a night.

I spent just over 3 weeks there in 2008 and didn't spend anywhere near that even though I was spending freely, did plenty of activities, stayed in hotels etc. I'm going back this year as part of a longer trip so I'll be on a tighter budget though.

We haven't booked flights yet, however we have been looking on various sites.

We're going to Oz after it so only looking at 1 way flights.

The best deal so far seems to be On lastminute.com where you can get 1 way flights from €458 Dublin to Bangkok.

When I do book I'll post back what I paid etc.

Thanks to everyone for their advice..

Going to Pattaya in June for 9 nights. Only bringing €1500 spending money which should be enough for me. Staying in a Irish guest house on Soi LK Metro for €15 a night. I think I will have about 6000baht a day after accomodation is paid for, which is enough to still have a good time. Although I know €4000 could easily be spent in 11 nights in Pattaya as I have done similar myself years ago.

To put the 6000baht into perspective, It costs between 80-100baht a beer in places I go. 500baht is more than enough for a days dining. I have been told it costs about 1000baht for a lady for a quick roll in the hay, or 2000baht for a long roll in the hay, although I have only heard that, as I am only there for the beaches and temples :o

Are you staying in The Irish Rovers?,Yeah €1500 is enough,i just went mad and blew €4k and i dont regret it,as you know you can have a lot of fun in Pattaya and even more when you dont worry about money.

Ill be back there for 2 weeks in August and i will spend between €2k/€3k them temples would have you broke ;)

I haven't stayed there myself but it has got a lot of good reviews,i always stay in the Lk Metro/Soi Buakhao areas, its a great spot to start the evening off before hitting Walking street, and there is a lot more new bars after popping up in the last year. Are you on any of the Pattaya boards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭Royal Irish

Yeah Lk Metro and Soi Buakhao is always a great spot to start a evening off. I used to be a member on Addicts, but that was just to gather some info before my first trip that was about 8 years ago. Didnt really look or post on it since then.

Some good advice and defo more expensive than when I was there in 2006!!
Thinking of shooting ver for 3months minimum- planning on hitting laos, vietnam, etc. too.

We are trying to work out our budget (couple) for 3 months; Spending money + accommodation.

Las time I was there I spent about €1500 in 3 weeks, but went on the piss every night and didn't watch my money that much- also bought a good few clothes, etc.
We were thinking €3000 each for 3 months- but kind of thinking we may need more if travelling, etc?

Dying to head over again! did you work over there for the year?

    Cheers.
